How long before the Mt. Spokane Wolf Pack?
« on: July 05, 2011, 10:41:07 PM »
Me and a buddy saw one up on the Spirit Lake, ID side of IEP(which is only a few miles from the border), so we asked the gate attendant and he said the ranchers up around Spirit Lake are getting frustrated with them and are seeing them all the time.  Last year I talked to the guy in charge of the logging up on that IEP and he said when his guys were coming up early in the morning they were hearing them howl back and forth.

I am sure that they are already making there way up into the Eastern slopes of Mt. Spokane, but how long before they end up over the hill and on the western slopes of Mt. Spokane?  Its already hard to shoot an elk in this unit, so it will really suck when there are no elk left.

Not sure if anyone else is aware of this, so I thought I would share what knowledge I had on the subject and want to see what everone else is thinking, or if they know more about whats going on with these particular wolves.

I'm sure there have been a few wolves in the Mt Spokane area, there have been quite a few sightings south of Newport in the lasty couple years.  They're pretty rangy animals and could be anywhere in that country.

I know there is a pack that runs back and forth across the Idaho/WA line on the south side of Mica, no reason to believe that Spirit Lake bunch wouldn't cross onto Mt Spokane.  Maybe some of the skiers will even get to see them over the winter this year.  That would be nice, get a ticket to ski and watch the wildlife as well....
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.

The good news is mt spokane has pretty low critter counts and the Idaho side has a bunch. Mica is a mess.
