Tree stands are the sheet  :)  killed my biggest bull from one and a couple buddies have too ..The god thing about the tree stand for elk you can hunt the thickest nastiest places where they live and it puts you in the drivers seat.. and when a big bad boy walks underneath ya their is nothen like it and be sure to wear your belt so when you start shacking you do not fall out  :chuckle: :chuckle: :twocents:

I enjoyed the book.  That guy has a lot of knowledge after that many years at it; to go 90% successful over 20 years is almost unreal.  The only people I know who do that are loggers, and only one of them does it with a bow (5pt or better bulls every year for 25 years in a row).  I liked the way he imparted the need for confidence in what you're trying to do and was surprised to hear how high he set his stands.  I was also surprised to hear that he built his own ladders from poles he found in the woods; that one in the picture stuck out like a sore thumb, but there was still an elk in that same picture.  I would have thought he would have done more calling from the stand, but he almost never did; water was his focus solely: now I've got to rethink my strategy some (not much, though, because there's water everywhere where I hunt).  I liked his "7 areas to avoid placing a stand" in the scouting section.

Entertaining book.  Money well spent.
Bring a GPS!  It's awkward to have to eat your buddies!
