Looking at a 45 acp

I am interested in getting a 45, currently lookin at a sw 4506 or a beretta px4 storm. Both full size.  I like larger calibers, but the wife wand to enjoy shooting it as well an didn't like my 44 mag.  Does the 45 kick as bad or should I look at a 40 to keep her happy?  It's gonna be a defense, pack while scouting/camping gun but no concealed carry or hunting. Although I am looking at a compact xd 40 as a back up.  Thoughts?

You wont be able to tell the diff from a 45 or a 40 probably. She will like either if you keep your loads down to say 800 FPS. My HK USP 40 kicks about the same as my 45's.

Hand her either with some federal Hydro's and she probably wont like either.

They are nowhere near as bad as the 44mag

You maay want to take a look at the Sig p250.  it is a modular design that can go from a fullsize frame to a subcompact.  I have one and like it, good trigger fairly light, can be converted from a full size .45 to a subcompac .357 sig, 9mm .40, or .45 for about $250.

Make sure whatever you get fits your wife's hands well and it won't seem so bad to her. FWIW .40 has more muzzle flip IMO than the 45acp. I've had mine shooting my tokarev of all things, I thought it might have too much flip or be too loud for her but it fits her hands well and she seems to like it.

I had a 4506 S&W. It's a cool gun, the gun that Sonny Crockett carried in Miami Vice.
It is a frickin brick though, huuuuuge gun. Has your wife handled one in person? I have big mitts and it's a serious handful. I'd be leary of that thing if you're buying it for a  lady to shoot unless she has huge man hands.

The 45 is usually described as a push and the 40 is more snappy. Most women that have shot with me prefer the 45acp. What are you going to be using it for? concealed carry, woods side arm, target shooting?

I bought a new .45 ACP on impulse a few years ago to carry with me in the woods. I didn't do my homework or testfire any other models to see what fit best. It hardly has a kick to it and is a great gun but accuracy past 10 yards is not very good. I can't remember off the top of my head what pistol my dad has but he is accurate out to 100 yards with it. I need to ask him what kind it is so that I can look into possibly buying one.

I know,  I think I'm leaning towards the beretta, it's lighter and a little smaller.  It's gonna be a carry gun while out in the woods, so if it's smaller and lighter than the raging bull I had I'll be happy.

Look into the smith wesson M&P compact or a Springfield XD compact, SIG anyone?

Personally I'd think or say that if your wife is the one that is going to use it, you ought to see what she fits.
Both of them are big framed guns. The 4506 makes my Glock 22 feel little but a lot of folks complain about the size of the grips on the G22 being too big.

Sorry should of been clearer, it's my gun she just wants to be able to shoot it when we camp, for some reason she didn't like the 44 that much ; )
