Antler Growth after Sept 1
« on: July 07, 2011, 12:32:07 PM »
Percentage wise, how much antler growth has occured by Sept 1 and will occur after Sept 1?  My serious scouting where I will start trying to figure out what buck or area to concentrate on will start around Sept 1.  Maybe it varies from area to area?  I'm guessing 80% by Sept. Any ideas?

A healthy wild buck with intact berries should be done with antler growth by September.

From what I've seen most are done growing by early to mid August and velvet is shed within a couple weeks of that....

I would say they are 99% done by early to mid August but they don't necessarily shed velvet right away.

As far as growth goes, zero in my opinion.  Some will still be hardening, but done with growth.

Check this video out I took last year August 15th it shows that the velvet has already been sheded and that the antler growth has long been over.

No antler growth after mid/late August.  I know everyone else is saying the same thing, but I like the way my club sounds when it's beating the dead horse better than everyone else's.... :beatdeadhorse:

Done growing by Sept. 1. Some are rubbed off by then and some aren't.

No velvet, no growth.  Bone is dead after the velvet is shed.  Time to fight!!!!
