Peep sight on muzzleloader

I am new to muzzleloading and need a little advice. I recently bought a Traditions Vortek and the saleperson who sold it to me recommended a peep sight be installed on it. Was wondering if any of you use a peep on your gun and if so what kind and how easy are they to install?

I use a peep on all my M/L rifles. Williams WGRS is my choice and installation on my rifles has been simple. Remove the filler screws or existing site and install the new one. Look on Williams site to see what peeps are available for your rifle.

I shot a bighorn and I bought a willams peep sight. The first year I shot with my buck horns and I had a all rite grouping at 150 yards like 4 to 5 inches but I wanted it a little tighter so I went with a sight. A lot of people recommend the willams for my gun so I did it. I lost all my grouping 6 to 8 inches so I took it off and I have it to a 3 inch group at 150 yard. Just my on sight. I shot a vortek last weekend up at are city rang and it shot nice with out a peep.

I honestly do not know if Williams makes a FP peep sight for a Traditions, but if they did i would highly recommend one.

I have one on my MK-85 along with a fiber optic front site and fiber hood on the front sight.

For me this is an extremly accurate setup.

use a Williams on mine T/C Black Diamond XR and I do like it better then the notch rear sight that came on it. I range/load test my rifle with scope on then pull the scope, put on peep and zero

My buddy and I both put Tang Peep Sights on our charcoal-burners.  Much better for old guys like us.  Used the tang screw for one hole in the sight mount, and drilled and tapped the other hole.  Pretty simple installation.  I also put a Williams Firesight on the front, and really helps in low light conditions. Also, a larger "hunting" orifice peep sight insert is better for faster sight acquisition.  tiny "Target" orifices are good for sighting in, then replace with a larger one for hunting.

Most people don't know the correct way to use a peep sight.  You never consciously look at the rear peep sight.  You look only at the front sight through the peep hole, and your brain automatically centers the front bead in the circle of the peep hole.  When you purposely try to center the bead, you'll be a little off every time!

I have a questions about peep sites. I have fiberoptic sites on my muzzleloader right now. Do i need a new front sight also for it?

I didnt..I just took off the rear notch sight, put the peep on the rear and run the fiber optic front sight that came on the gun.

I put the peep on my gun where the rear scope base would go. not where I took the notch rear sight from...

Same here I left the front sight as it came on my bighorn, I also have the williams.

A peep is a must for me on all my guns. I really shoot a lot better, most people here in wa and other states that need open optics use peeps sights. Truglo makes a globe sight that I am a huge fan of.

Those of you looking into the addition of a peep. I would discourage you from getting a peep that replaces your rear sight as a ramp peep like this

The most effective way to use a peep is with a rear mount so that the eye is closer to the apeture. IMO this makes sighting much easier and more positive.

I'm not a muzzleloader, but I have a tang-mounted peep sight on the 30-30 that I inherited from my grandfather and I can't imagine using anything other type of iron sight.
