3 Years ago we were hunting south of Republic down by Swan Lake. It was almost dark when my wife and I heard a bunch of coyotes cut loose yapping and howling. Then, in the distance past them, we heard a lone wolf howl. We both looked at each other and said simultaneously "that's not a coyote". We hung around until it was so dark we could not see anything but could still hear animals moving all around us. Talk about make the hair stand up on the back of your neck.  :yike:

Very reliable local:  Two grey phase adults this week on the north rim of Rock Creek canyon south of Freeman, Washington. GMU 127.
When I asked if he had reported the sighting, time and date the answer was 'no'.  The department did not believe him when he reported howling earlier this year.

We were at 119 wolves, but we lost a few reported sightings when the site was down, please repost them if you can, and I will get the tally updated ASAP.

I figure there are 12 in that pack.I think its the LARGEST pack in the state at the moment.  It is seeding the lower Coville Res and probably had something to do with wolves in Lincoln.   I almost got one on film the other day.

I talked to a Colville Rez fish and game guy and he said he had the same two on cam as well.  Described both of them to me exactly.

GMU 572 Siouxon Nov 14th 2011, Hiking (in snow) off the PCT about 5 miles and came across a lone track 4 fingers wide by 5 fingers long w/ fairly long stride. Ran into GW and told him and he first tried to tell me it was probably from a person out with their dog. I told him where we were and that no other human tracks were around. He then admitted it must have been a wolf.  :o

Just got back from elk camp a couple days ago.
My wife and son had  a wolf shadowing them while walking the horse trails up above the Kalama horse camp the week before the season. She thought it was a bit coyote until she described it to me. Mostly black with a little grey throughout. It's back was about hip high to her. She took a pic of it's print in the sand/ash along side her fist. The paw print is bigger.
During the season, my pops and his partner went back by his partners spot he killed his 3X4 the day before, and a large grey was at the gutpile. No mistaking that it was a wolf.

Ok the one time was enough but now i have had 3 encounters in a month!! 11-15-11 stopped at the first tracks along the road after the first snow and saw big wolf tracks walking down the road,  was taking pics with my phone and thought i heard something so i shut off the truck and yep, heard a lone wolf howling it howled 8-10 times but was going the other way, this sounded exactly the same as the wolf that i recorded with my phone(10-17-11) it was 4 miles away from the first encounter, i am pretty sure this was the same one just by the howls. the next day(11-16-11) was coming out of the woods with a friend we both stopped to go to the bathroom. He came flying up around the corner and pointing to the woods telling me to turn off my truck, I did just in time to hear just a faint couple of howls,he let out a howl that didnt sound to good and then it was silent, was late so didnt get to hang out to try to hear it anymore.  this last one i cant say it was 100% forsure but we both thought so, the first to (10-17 and 11-15) were both no doubt about it, wolves. This is starting to worry me!!!! :bash: :bash: Three in a month!! These last to were on the spokane indian reservation, the first one was real close to there. I have not figured out posting pics on here so i will get it to my email if anyone can get the pic on here.

The last one (11-16) was not the same wolf as the one i heard befor, (10-17 & 11-15) may have been the same but (11-16) was diffrent sounding howl.

Hey Bear, I don't know if you check out huntfishNW or not but they have some very interesting wolf stories on there from here in WA.?  I had to read and look at some hunting stuff while you guys were making this bigger and better. :chuckle:
