Gosh, I forgot to add a "sighting" this fall... It was late October, south of Spokane, probably officially in the Palouse; no houses for miles, I found a canine skull; correct size to be a wolf and highly unlikely it was a dog that far away from roads, houses, etc... It was on private property... I perform research plots for the forest service on all lands... public and private but cannot release the exact location because of the privacy agreement we sign.  :dunno: It was probably a year old; no other bones or evidence was around. There was one spot it could have been visible from a private road and perhaps shot and left... the teeth had medium wear.

Hirshey, can you offer a GMU?

Not sure if it has been updated on here but one of the recent wolf sightings around Nespelem, WA on the Colville Reservation was a DNA'd and is a hybrid. Just thought I'd let people know this is what I heard, I work for the Tribes Fish & Wildlife and can confirm it with one of our biologists but that's what I was told from a reliable source.

BuckNAze, welcome to the forum, and thanks for posting about that sighting. Please let us know what's true. I hope the tribe will try to eliminate any hybrids, it would be even worse to have hybrids out there breeding.

Looks like the eastern portion of GMU 139 Steptoe.

It seems quite a few of the wolf sightings are hybrids.  How is they going to affect the beloved gray wolf they want to have back here.  Isn't this going to contaminate the gene pool when they start mixing in with the wolves.

 I hadn't remembered... makes sense, though; right on the Idaho border... not like they claim residency to a single state.. and there are a lot of whitetail and turkies in the area to chomp on.

In one way it's bad for changing the genetics and habits of wolves, on the other hand, I don't think hybrids are protected....  :dunno:

GMU 117 - Cooks Mountain

Latitude, Longitude: 48.220151546854055, -117.11974829435349

1 large adult wolf gray in color

Date: 04/12/2012 1:30 PM

Wife was playing with Kids in back yard spotted wolf watching them @ 70 yards. My wife did a research paper this winter on the importance of hunting wolfs for college. She knows what one looks like.  I live in the country only 10 or so houses around and I know what all different dogs in the area are, no hybrid of dogs matching description of the dog my wife seen. She said it looked to be bigger than my 100 lbs Lab.  I wrote it off as possible hybrid. But then this weekend I went to my cousin birthday party and one of my neighbors 2 miles down the road was there and said his neighbor next to him said they saw 2 adult wolfs the day before My wife did. This has already been reported to Fish and Game

They want the wolf back here not cross breeds.  Once the gene pool is polluted with the hybrids that are now running loose we will have nothing more that packs of wild dogs.  Large wild dogs that will not have much fear of humans.

Maybe that's what needs to happen since hybrids can't legally be protected, nor should they manage for hybrids so if the whole gene pool becomes hybrids then.........?

Asked one of our biologist and head of Fish and Wildlife what would happen to the hybrid since it was a confirmed hybrid. I was told they will be doing some trapping soon to collar the wolves thehy can capture, once they trap the hybrid they will collar it and send DNA back for all the wolves they trap and any they record that are hybrids will be destroyed but they need to confirm whatever is a hybrid, or if there are any more.
