spot hogg sight question
« on: July 08, 2011, 08:35:58 PM »
im lookin into the hunter hogg it and cant decide which pin size to go with, either .010 or .019, have never shot with .010 pins and dont know how well they will work in low light situations aka PNW timber. has anyone ever had an issue with the .010 pins. thanks for any input!

I love them. Even in thick dark timber.

I bought the Hunter Hogg-it with .010 pins (wrapped) thinking that would be perfect. However, I only had that sight for 3 days before I returned it for the .019 pins. The .010 was plenty visible when the lighting was good to decent but I couldn't see them at all when I shot in any kind of low light situation. I also found that I couldn't "float the pin" well with the smaller fiberoptics because I kept subconsciously switching my focus between the target and the sight itself to find out where the pins was. I'd recommend the .019 myself, it's plenty small enough for make precision shots and I can see it plenty well in low light situations. Just my opinion, hope it helps.

I have both sizes and prefer .019 for hunting they gather more light.  .010 for target but they are very fragile.

I have a different sight but it has the .010 pins. It takes some getting used to but once you do you won't look back. :twocents:

If you have a place that will order a sight for you have it custom made. I have a 5 and a 7 pin and I have the pins start at .029 and drop down to .019 then .010. The .010 is my last couple pins on the 7 and last one on the 5. Yeah they're harder to see in low light or dark timber but chances are you're not going to shoot that far in a timber or low light situation anyway.

:yeah:  I recently bought a hogg it 7 pin. 5 .019 pin and 2 .10 pins. for me the .10 pins are a definite advantage when practicing at longer distance.

:yeah:  I have changed and customized my sights for years, starting at the larger pins and doing a gradual reduction to .010 for the last pins on my Spot-hog as well as my axcel. Buy your own fiber with the colors you want and extra pins and do it yourself.  :)

Some good ideas on the smaller pins for long range....Ive always liked my hogg but the pins DO seem large at 50 yds or more.

I recently switched to a single pin and love it. Always was against them till I tried one. Off topic I know.

thanks all, got the sight on order! .019 for the top 5 and .010 for the bottom 2. dont plan on using those last two on any game but love the long shots for practice!

Now that you've had experience with the site and pins, how do you like it?  I was debating on doing much the same in the spott hogg hunter.  They said I can vary it up from .29, .19, and .10 so I have some options for sure.
