dog breaking out of kennel (help)

ok,  i went on a 4 day camping trip this weekend,  and i didn't take my dog,  my wife's little brothers were watching him.  well when i got back,... i had a little problem with the dog,.. he hates staying in his kennel (dog run kennel)   he has never had a problem like this before.   i think it is because while we were gone, the guys let the dog out alot more than i used to, so now he hates being in the kennel,  especially if he sees someone outside.  i came home last night, and i already had to replace sections of the fence twice, the dog just tears a hole in the chain link fence,  what should ii do to curb this behavior?   

p.s.  he's not breaking out because he smells females, (he's not neutured)  he just wants to be out of his kennel, 

i usually let him out two times a day, for training and playing,  but when i was gone they let him out for pretty much the whole day.

Prisoners like to get out of the cage too. Your brother'n laws let him have a taste of the good life. It all comes down to training. A dog that can tear a hole in chain link fence, would think twice if the fence was electrified.

Prisoners like to get out of the cage too. Your brother'n laws let him have a taste of the good life. It all comes down to training. A dog that can tear a hole in chain link fence, would think twice if the fence was electrified.

i'm thinking the same thing,..  i don't care for the fence as much as i do for the dog,  i cut himslef yesterday getting out,   

what would be the best way to put an electric wire on his kennel? one wire, or several?

i was thinking about leaing his e-collar on and shoking him when he tries to get out,  but i don't really want to use the collar for something like this.   

p.s.  i definately learned my lesoon about leaving my dog with the boys..  next time,.. i'm taking him with me, no matter what kind of extra fees or rules they have for dogs at the campsite.

If he keeps doing it you might want to keep a good eye on his teeth for as long as he has them.

I had to step up to a welded wire kennel for my GSP she hates being in her kennel. The kennel ran about $700 for a 5 x 10, but I know she is safe now when we are not home.

i might have to do the same thing.  its actually a good option for me,  i have enough material laying around that i won't really have to buy anything.  and i'll look better than my chain link kennel

Costco had some heavy duty kennels for 500, might be worth checking out.

I had to use welded hog fence that comes in the 3" squares.  I ran that around the inside and under the gravel of the kennel.  Problem solved.

My GSP would not be contained in a kennel he would do pretty much the same thing,I ended up putting a low level electric fence wire about 6 inches off the ground all the way around the inside and anotherabout 2/3 the way up cause he would also climb out.He got hit two times and he never tried again.I rarely kennel my dogs but if i do they know not to try to escape

ok,  well here's an update, and how the problem was solved, 

all it took really was getting him back to his normal schedule, and he was back to normsl, no jumping on the kennel, no tearing of the chain link fence,... i did have a slight problem though. he chipped one of his k-9's so he didn't eat for 3 days,  but now he's back to normal,  gaining weight again, and just being a good dog all around,  lol.

this just goes to show how changing a dogs schedule can affect it.

yup, welded hog wire fastened with heavy gauge electric fence wire. No escapees...can even put it over the top. Many dogs chew right through chain link. Welded wire kennels are the best investment if you plan on having dogs for a while. If you have chain link, just upgrade it with welded hog panels. Easy fix.

my dog was a kennel climber, hole chewer, escape artest

I got a cable, tied it to the very center of the kennel thru the wiring on the floor, I snap her on that and shut the kennel door.
She has enough lead to roam the kennel (10'x10') but not enough to climb the walls
no more problems
