Berries??
« on: July 10, 2011, 09:11:46 AM »
What do you guys think our eastside berries will be like this year? Last year sucked, hardly any choke cherries, huckleberries. Just wondering what you think this year will do

I'm saying bad again this year.  I've noticed the early cold weather killed a lot of their buds.

Huckleberries are going to be really hurting this year, more than last year. I went scouting this weekend and couldn't get past 4000 ft. Normally, I can around June 1st. Last year, it was late June.

I am seeing a good supply of salmon berries , just not sure about blueberries yet since they do not show up until around the middle of August ...last year I could of been hunting a week earlier than I did because I seen my 1st bear feeding on blueberries the last week in August and by the 1st week in September it was red hot ....time will tell .

The salmon berries, salal and black berries are just busting out all over here...  Of course, I'm in Ryderwood area, (530) so there don't seem to be a lot of bear taken down here.  That has always puzzled me, unless it is just because of access issues.
