I think you're taliking about area 11? I saw garbage all over the place.

Just arriving here to JBLM and was wondering if anyone could help out with a couple areas for me and my son to hunt blacktails? We are from the Adirondacks in New York and have hunted Whitetails but from what I hear we are up for a challenge with Blacktails. Thanks to all and good luck this season.

Darton--- First off ***WELCOME TO THE SITE***

I wouldnt bother with Ft.Lewis that much unless you know the areas... It's a pain the neck cause were the deer are at they don't open those areas. I would try Vail Tree Farm between Rainier and Yelm on Opening Day. There is alot of area to hunt with clearcuts, reprod, timber. Just thought I would put my  :twocents: in and let you know. Good Luck!!

I do have to agree with Yelm Hunter on this one, especially for your first time hunting this area.

Hunted TA 23 for the ML season passed on 4 does hoping to see something with antlers and busted some elk but couldn't get back on them. I'll be in TA 19, I got a multi-season deer tag so I'm holding out.

The base is a great place to go if you know where to go.I was on area 4 last weekend and saw 12 deer in apx 4 hours 3 of then were bucks but nothing big.I just got back from area 10 hunting with my mom and she missed a good 120+ buck on the small arms impact area side of 10.Im of 30 vet of the base and I get a buck every year ,but Iv never got a deer in the early season. My best is  151 6X6 I shot in 08 on area 5 just behind the skeet range. My advise to you is use a treestand and stay all day. Most of my deer were shot around 1100-1130 so park it and stay quiet.Area 9,5,4,3 and 6 are good places to start.Stay away from 11,15,21,22,23, lots of poachers. Not alot of deer. Some elk on 21,23 and you need to get a pass to go to the adventure center to get your hunting pass .Dont forget your ins.card hunting lic and reg.for your rigand they charge 10 bucks now.Hope this helps you....

This might be a silly question, but are you allowed to take pictures of the deer you harvest while it's laying on jblm property? I know military bases are touchy about photography sometimes... does that apply in this case?
