I just bought a .300 ultra meg for bear hunting. Do u guys have any suggestions on what power level I should sight it in with

Best bet is to get a reloading manual and start from there. Each of my RUMs likes a different amount of powder with each according bullet. I only use Retumbo, as I've found it to be the best.

There are three power level. I II III

You want a bear to go down right there and not have to chase him into the brush. I say go with with the most bang.

I own one of these rifles myelf. you will lvoe it..

I presume you may be talking about the Remington managed recoil ammo.

I think they have 3 levels but I may be mistaken.
Level 1 makes it equivalent to .30-06.
Level 2 .300 Win Mag
Level 3 actual .300 Ultra Mag

As was said before whatever you plan on hunting with, all 3 would be adequate for bear.

I myself don't buy a magnum without wanting to shoot and hunt with it at it's full potential

Oops, I thought he said "powder level". Personally, if you chose the 300 RUM, you should go with the level III. If not, you should have went with a 300 Win or 3006.

I thought the point of the Power level ammo was that one gun could shoot all three ammo's with little to no adjustment to the scope out to 200. Has anyone tried this?

The point of the power levels, was to allow the shooter to choose a level that he wanted for the game that he was hunting. Basically turning the RUM into a 300 Win or 3006 with a swap of ammo. Good idea, in my opinion, but I would buy a different caliber if I wanted to shoot a "lesser" gun.

I'd do preliminary sighting in with the lowest level ammo, especially if the cost is lower, but even if it's not, the recoil will be less and it will be more comfortable to shoot. Get it close and then fine tune it with whatever ammo you decide to use for hunting. If you're not going to shoot beyond 300 yards, then the level 1 will do just fine. But I would probably just go ahead and use the lever 3 for hunting. Unless you know for a fact your shots will be 200 yards or closer.

After seeing a bear take a .225gr .338 win like it was nothing I would go level III. Not to say a 30-06 or 300 isnt enough gun, but why have a rum and not shoot full house loads unless your sighting in or getting use to the gun?

I would look more at the actual bullet than the cartridge. I think Power Level 1 is plenty for a black bear (at certain ranges with a sturdy bullet). The Power Level concept is great, like with reloading, you can match bullet-velocity-animal for your intended difference. If you are looking to go super long range you may want Level 3. Nice thing about the bigger rifles is you can tune them lower when needed, but the small rifles are limited in what they can go up to.
I've heard there is a Power Level 4 now, but no stores can get them. They are handloaded by Chuck Norris and he takes orders from no one.

Shot one deer with a ultra mag and all I know is it is one flat shootin mo fo ...it will for sure reach out and touch someone .....

This cartridge is capable of doing way more than most people can take adavantage of. I think I said that right

I am one of them, I rarely get ot shoot much lately. But when i retire i plan on spending some serious time putting bullets down range.

I know iprobably has happened, but this 300 RUM will make most bears go nite nite very quickly...

Level 4 cartridge is a Sasquatch only load and you have to have MARSEC clearance IIIB to obtain them.

That gun will kill what you hit. You don't need all this fancy bullet level crap. By whatever ammo and it will work. I had a 300 RUM and I used Cor-lokt, or however you spell it. All the other stuff is just mfgr hype to sell more ammo, that's all.
