We are going the week before Thanksgiving.  A guy that i am aquainted with went last year the same week (but different area) and said the rut was kicked really hard.  He went with nine other guys and all filled their tags.  We are heading over the last week of August for a scout trip.  Not looking so much for animals but more of land scouting.  I am hoping to try and scope out a couple BMA's just as a back up plan.

Why not bring both shooters? Whatever you shoot better IMO. An .06 is not going to kill a deer better than a .243 if you place it right. My great aunt still hunts elk with an .243, seen lots of hide on the ground from that gun. Lighter bullet in the wind though...

We were there a couple years ago and if I went again I would take a big enough boat to get away from where most all of the other hunters are at. We took a little boat to motor across a small bay and get into some roadless but lots of people had th esame idea. The guys with bigger boats that were running miles down the res. were coming back with descent bucks. As you can see my boat, a 12 foot porta bote , is just big enough to fit 4 guys and a deer in it and hope for no wind on the way home!nwhunter
