What's up with Thompson/Center and other single shots?

It seems like an unusually high number of hunters on TV that hunt with with modern firearms use a T/C or CVA single shot rifles. My experience has been that I don't know one person that hunts with a single shot rifle. Obviously, sponsorship is a factor. But how much?

A LOT!  Those companies are spending a fortune for the good names on TV.  In most states you can be a multi-season hunter without the draw.  My brother gets to shoot 13 deer a year in MD if he uses all three weapon groups.  He's asked me for one of these multiple barrel option guns for Christmas.  They lend themselves to that quite nicely.  Not sure he's that good of a brother though.

I think we get a bit more picky about our guns out west with our longer shots and reduced opportunities.

i have hunted with tc encores for 10 years, they are more accurate then i am. i have two frames, both set up for rifle. from my 22 to my 45/70 every thing has same trigger & stock. it has made me a better hunter, and a better shot. at this time i have 4 rifle barrels and 1 shotgun barrel. i have other rifles, Remington 700 & 760, both in 06, but i prefer my encores.

The T/Cs are kinda spendy to start. They are as much as a rifle plus the scope, rings and mounts. You can get Bergara Barrels which are made by Shillen in Spain for less than an OEM T/C barrel. That's what I've started doing. I've put Pentax scopes on mine with rings and bases for around
$450 + -. My stainless frame was $450 with a trigger job shipped to an FFL. Check out www.eabco.com

mine are all tc barrels i bought 3 of them new, and two used. i bought a 22-250 off http://www.encoreclassifieds.com/  , and traded a 45xd tactical for a complete rifle with a 45/70 barrel. (guarantee it was not shot too many times  ) i added a Nikon i had on the shelf.

I also have 2 frames and 4 barrels. 1 frame is souped up with a trigger job, hammer spring, Bellm's #1 oversized hinge pin. My 300wm and 22-250 barrels shoot darts at 100 +/- 1" which is plenty good for me. The 22-250 is tighter than that with the Winchester white box varmint ammo. Curious to see how my .280 barrel shoots. It's a standard rifle contour'ed barrel so it makes for a nice light little rifle. The 300wm barrel is a bull barrel. It's still nice and small relative to a bolt action rifle and has a 26" barrel.

Curious to know what mods you had made to your rifle if any. Usually if they don't go off it's because someone has put a hammer extender on them and not added the hammer spring. I can't get on Bellm's website here at work so I don't know what that link references. If you put a hammer extension on, add the heavier hammer spring.  It will prevent misfires.

I own an encore chambered in 7mag, and my wife just bought a contender in 223 rifle version, we both love these frames they are by far the best rifles I have ever owned

Don't have a TC but we bought the daughter a New England for Christmas a few years back and we all like shooting it. Very accurate riffle and much cheaper to purchase then a TC.

I figured that was the case. That's not the rifle's fault.
I have the Bellm's extension and the hammer spring and have fired hundreds of rounds without an issue. They now make a lighter hammer spring that apparently still works well but is easier to pull. The other spring makes for a little harder pull of the hammer but it's a non-issue.

I have a G2 contender carbine and the contender pistol also.  my G2 carbine with a 23" bull barrel and scope weights in at around 5 1/2 to 5 3/4 pounds depending on caliber.  I have a 204 ruger that is all but one hole at 100 yards and a 30/30 that is under a inch at 100 and under 2 at 200 using 160 leverloution ammo.  I am looking at getting a 375 JDJ for it,  that is the 444 marlin necked down to 375 and shoots a 200 to 300 grain bullet at 2100-1770 fps depending on bullet weight and barrel length.  so I will have a rifle under 6lbs that can cover anything in the state.  I like the thought of only one shot makes me wait for the perfect shot.  like i was taught and i am trying to teach my kids its not about killing something its about hunting it and enjoying the chase.  but the meat tastes good..

I have one frame and 4 barrels.  22-250, .223, .243, and 7 mag.  I love and shoot them all.  I know why so many varmint round barrels.  Well I had someone pass on to me tons of 22-250, 243, and 7 mag ammunition.  When I say tons I mean it.  Over 500 rounds of 7 mag,  450 rounds of .243, and almost 700 rounds of 22-250, and it was all factory stuff.  I got the first rifle set up in .223 before all the ammo came to me because I wanted a new challenge, single shot.  I liked the fact that I could have several different guns just by changing the barrel.  All of the guns have shot something over the years and I have never had a problem with any of them.  I was going to get a barrel in 300 win but I found a deal on a new rifle (Weatherby) for less than the price of the encore barrel.  I already had a scope sitting in the safe also.  I was also going to get the black powder barrel but found they were not legal to use as of now in this state for hunting.  As I said before they are a great system and I like mine.

The TC rifles are pretty fun, but I sold all of mine a while back. For the weight of an Encore, I could get a bolt action in the same caliber. With the Contender you could get it down around 6#, but the calibers were kind of limited. Don't get me wrong, there are some pretty impessive Contender wildcats. But even the best of them only run around 308 performance.

I have 2 contenders & 4 barrels, 223, 25/35 win, both factory bull barrels 23", 7mm TCU 24" rifle from Match grade Machine & 7mm TCU factory pistol 14" with plastic factory grip. they were great first rifles for my kids & I outfitted them with custom laminated stocks from gunstocks.inc but they have outgrown 'em & I will hold on to them for my grandkids. accounted for many 1st deer for my kids as well as nieces & nephews. with handloads 225-250 yard guns for deer. never shot 'em at anything else except coyote, got him too.
never had an issue with any of 'em, don't like how TV personalities always say "let me set down my Thompson/Center Pro-Hunter & we'll take a better look at this deer!" I know that's how they pay for the show but come on!
