homemade sts

so i just made myself a sts dampener for my bow. took a 5/16th bolt cut the head off ot it. then cut a piece of a graphite fishing pole down to the right length i needed and grabbed a use rubber stopped from a sts.

cost me a total of 33 cents.

cant beat that. and it works perfectly. and dont look to bad either.

it works perfect. the way i made it i have about an inch of adjustment. now i just need a new string.

I just bought one today and am embarrassed at what I paid. Looks good. Mine came with a string to wrap on my bow string where the sts hit. To keep it from wearing on the bow string. Mine helped my Hoyt alot, I thought about building one but as I get older I realize better to just get it done. Congrats.

yeah i was gonna buy one...but im unemployed so im trying to save as much money as possible.

mine works great, and doesnt look to bad either. i jush wish i didnt buy a stainless bolt lol i cant drill into it to put a set screw...so im waiting for this damn gorrilla glue to dry.

You would think with me being an engineer and all, I would love to design and build all kinds of stuff, but like MIKEXRAY said, I find as I get older, I would rather not deal with it and pay someone else to do it.  Besides, I spend enough time at work designing crap that it is really the last thing I want to do when I get home.

lmfao well i served the area i cut. and it worked out good.

then last night i was drawing back my bow just getting my muscles workout with (i do 100 a night) and my dloop came undone.

and the bow dry fired and my string popped off the cams...

That is a bitch, sorry to hear that. I always worry about that but lucky so far. Any damage besides cable or string ? Good luck putting it back together.

nope luckily...the upper cam spins nicely. and the cable is still one but super tight so the bottum cam is stuck...i can almost turn it by hand enough to get the damn string back on. but idk if i wanna try and reuse this string. its about as shot and they can get now.

SWEET!!! i got my string put back on. reserved everything that needs to be served. string looks good and bow is shooting as good as ever.

who needs a bow press...

it was actually quite alot easier then i thought it would be. i could go buy new string and cable and put it on at home in 2 minutes. along with a second persons help, i needed 3 hands for the job. but could easily do it by myself if i had that 3rd hand.

the sts is still holding up very nice, i need to add a couple washers between the bow and the sts though.

i think i should make a new name for them, and see if there is any interest for them. ive got 2 of them minus the dampener part. but that is very easy to get my hands on.

I am sure there is a market for them, just look at all the ones on ebay, and I am sure you have seen all the guys over on AT making them.  Give it a shot, what do you have to lose but a little time and a coule of dollars?
