Wa hunters hunting wolves in Idaho?

How many Washington hunters on here have traveled to Idaho specifically to hunt wolves? How many guys hunt deer or elk over there and bought a tag just in case?

Ever see any wolves or get any shots?

I am toying with the idea of making a trip this year to Idaho just for wolves. Shooting a big wolf is kinda getting me thinking....

Myself and another member on here are trying to plan a trip over in November to hunt striclty wolves.

 Sounds like they are going to have a trapping season on them because they don't think the quota can be met by boot hunters. If you can, this would increase odds of success tremendously.

If they go ahead and approve the reduced tags in the Lolo Zone, I'll be hunting wolves this fall and winter.  I would love to run a trapline and still might but probably won't the non-resident trapping lic is very high at over $300.

I will certainly be hunting them this winter, I believe the season will run to March 31, so riding snowmobiles while cutting wolf tracks seems like a fine way to spend a weekend to me.

Well that is $300 for the lic, gotta buy some wolf steel, then running the trapline, probably looking at over $1000 all total for a wolf or two....might be worth it, would sure be exciting to lay some steel for canis lupus occidentalis.

I see it realistically costing $1000 to $3000 to get a wolf by the time you figure in travel costs, expenses, and the fact a person probably will have to go numerous times to be successful.

If I have time, I am giving it a try.

I bought a tag the day they started selling them. I hunt deer over there so if I get one it will most likely be an incidental encounter. However I have have been seriously considering going over there for a week just to hunt wolves if I fill my WA deer tag early enough...

They should make deer and elk tags valid for wolves for non-residents the same way they did for bears/cougar.  I think $186 is pretty spendy for someone being in Idaho for maybe a week or two which isn't much time to not only see a wolf but to get a shot at one.

I guess it all depends on the area you plan to hunt though.  I was in the woods probably 30-40 days/year the 4 years I was going to UI.  Spent lots of time from Elk River to St. Maries and everywhere in between at all times of the year, and never saw single one in the flesh, though I saw some sign.  The one trip I made down to the McCall area I saw two. Go figure.

I might have to pick up some snares and a half dozen MB 750 Ws, but at $34 a piece and 5 pounds per trap, that will be a load for the back country.
