S&W 629 44mag, 4 inch.  240gr swc.  It'll put a hurt on anything I can think of!
The only difference between a butt kisser and a brown noser is depth perception.

Either a 4 5/8" Ruger Flattop in .44 special using a cast 255gr SWC @900fps, or a 4 5/8" Ruger Flattop in .44 mag with the same bullet at 1100fps.  Pack either one in leather as it makes the least noise and leather is just cool.

When in the woods I have my S&W® 4" SS Mdl 686 357 Magnum on my hip. I load it with Buffalo Bore® Heavy 357 Magnum Ammo - 180 gr. Hard Cast LFN-GC (1,400fps/ME 783 ft. lbs.) or the HSM® Bear Load 180gr Hard Cast RNFP-GC (1,489fps/ME of 886 ft lbs).

As for my woods rifles; 30/30 Winchester (170gr) for Deer, and a 444 Marlin® with Beartooth® 300gr LFNGC Hard Cast Boolits*

* Jacketed  are Bullets; Cast are Boolits. ;)

Interesting, how does one use a gun/cartridge combination invented in 1873; in a war fought from 1861 to 1865?
