Thank you to everybody for info and opinions on other questions. My new question is when i throw my dogs bumper he is sitting and gets all four paws off the ground when he goes to get it wich shows me he wants it bad but now do i start having him wait before i release him to get it? i say fetch when i throw it and when he gets back he sits anyways thanksjim
work on the "stay" command without a bumper first,.. make sure the dog has the stay/steady command down, then start doing it with the bumoer, but keep a leash on the dog when you start doing it with a collar, because the dog will automatically want to go after it, give the stay/staedy command, then throw the bumper, and give the command again,.. once the dog settles a little, (couple seconds usually) release him with his name, or fetch, or however you want, lolit'll be alot easier if the dog has the stay/staedy command down.
Don't let him retrieve them all either. About 1 in 5 go out and get it yourself while he waits patiently.

I agree with everything said here except for using the dogs name for a release command. I use 'OK' as a release command for my dogs. A release command can be anything of course, but I've never seen anyone use the dogs name as a release command.
Doesn't mean a hill of beans how you do it. Dogs don't know english, only we do. Just depends on what you teach.
