wall tent angle pieces?
« on: July 24, 2011, 11:18:19 AM »
Anyone ever made their own?  Most company's want a couple hundred bucks for a 12 piece kit!  Seems a lot cheaper to just make my own.  Any tricks or suggestions would be appreciated.

I have bought a lot of angles from the Outfitters Pack Station: http://www.outfitterspackstation.com/tent-accessories.html

$12 each for 3 or 4 way angles.

There is a place called Tarp World right off of 167 in Sumner or Pacific.  They sell items like that including replacement tops and side panels for carports.

I guess none of us really answered your question. You could build your own angles if you figured out the angle you need and get pipe slightly bigger inside diameter than the pipe you use for the frame.

I used 1" Electrical tubing for all my frames.

I think 120 degrees is common.  I'm sure there are different angles though depending on the size of the tent, so you should check with your tent manufacturer first.   You could order/buy one to use as an example if you have all the stuff to cut/weld your own.

I have built several sets for myself and others.  Measure the angles by usung a layout on the shop floor.  With your tent up and tight, measure Wall to wall, length of eve and wall heigth.  You can easily measure the angles with an adj. square and transfer to material.  A  fencing business will have reminents you can get cheap.  Be sure and leave all surfaces smooth.  You will find that on most tents the eve angle will differ from the ridge,  just mark the different when in storage to help in figuring it out.

Thanks cook!  Gonna make it my project for next week.  The scraps from the fencers is a great idea!

Someone mentioned 1" emt already. I use 1" emt for my poles and made my brackets from chain link fencing top rail. They fit together pretty well and are pretty cheap to make.

use thin wall square tubing, alot easier than trying to fish mouth all of the pipe to create the right angles
