Big MD [Updated] And Even BIGGER
« on: July 24, 2011, 05:24:50 PM »
Here's a mount I put together a couple months ago.  I was hoping to do some pictures with better background and lighting but I haven't found the time to get it done.   For some reason my wife calls this one my fantasy buck.  :dunno:   36" wide,  15 points on each side, scores 2?? maybe you can play guess the score.    He's gonna look great on the wall just as soon as I get a wall finished to put him on.  What do you guys think?

Great guess cem3434.  He's 285 net.  I found this set a few years ago.  They had been laying a long time.  They were very chalky and had a few broken points.  It took me about three years from start to finish to complete this set.  I just did a little work on them now and again.  I do antler restoration for allot of guys.  Ive had the opportunity to work on some tremendous  deer like these two bucks.  Here is a set is supposed to score right at 300".  They were also picked up here in Utah.  You can see from the first picture what kind of shape they were in when I got them, also very chalky and some missing pieces that had rotted away.  This guys got some unbelievable mass and some unique points coming off the inside of the main beam.  Ive seen points like that on whitetail but never on a muley.  For sure one of the neatest sets of antlers Ive ever seen.

Cool project!  I'll guess 275".  It would've been 290, but he's lacking a little in the 12ths.

Well, what is your definition of "very little artistic freedom or epoxy"? Are those repaired sheds, reproductions of sheds, or your interpretation of some sheds you once saw?

They are sheds that were found in central Utah a couple years ago by daydreamer who happens to be my bro. In law. He did do a little repair work but the sheds were huge in person.

That guy might bust 300".  There's a 300+ mulie in the Cabela's in Post Falls, ID.  Looks about like that guy, more mass but less points and spread...
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

I see now. I wasn't sure what you had going there. Those are both AWESOME sets. That second buck is absolutely amazing. Again, great work. Where exactly did you say those were picked up?
