Need some help!
« on: July 25, 2011, 08:39:03 AM »
I don't know if you guys remember the two young men from Austria that are coming here to WA to bear hunt, if not here is the post:

http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,76084.0.html

I was planning on helping them however now I'm going to be in KY for 3 weeks of training.  Can anyone help me out and help these two guys.  I have been e-mailing a little bit with them and they seem like super nice guys, looking to do some bear hunting.  They do not have exaggerated expectations, but if you could help, please let me know.  They will be able to hunt 29 Aug through 2 Sep.  Let me know if you can lend a hand.  I'd like to to line them up some help before I break the bad news to them that I won't be here.  Thanks for any help!!

I did remember about this and had been meaning to ask what the progress on this was? The only bit of help I might could offer is to get these guys out to your neck of the woods - transpo. Lemme know if/when you could use that kinda help. I hope someone can step up and help set 'em up!

Only problem is this side of the state doesn't open until after Labor Day.  I'm thinking of loaning them two rifles and trying to get them into the Manastash Unit...depending on the road conditions.  I might be able to hunt with them the last day they are here, but I'll be in KY when they first get here.  I think they are just looking to share a day out bear hunting with some Americans.  I checked with WDFW and all they need is their Hunter Safety Education card, the one from Austria works just fine, and their passport and they can get a lic and bear tag.

Might be able to help out. Am no expert in bear hunting in this state though.

I know a few areas that hold bears. I usually wait until it cools off in end of Sept to hunt

Pm sent

Thanks, I think they just want to go with someone, I have sent them a series of questions to see if they will be able to skin and pack there bear out if they are on their own.  Hopefully I'll be able to get back and hunt with them for at least a day or two.

I can tell you for sure that they would take you up on it.  I will forward to you their e-mails so you can see what they are hoping for, which is not much, they would just like to tag along with some and if they get a bear that would be icing on the cake.  Thanks much!!!!!  I think it will be a blast taking a couple of guys from Eruope out bear hunting, Imagine the stories they will have to tell back in Austria.

I'm pretty sure it's not open until after Labor Day, same as the NE corner.  Thanks for the offer Bart!

Fred,
If things dont pan out let me know I have a spring that I will be putting a trail cam on in the next week. This place had 6 different bears hitting it last year during late Aug and Sept. Unit 121 doesn't open until Sept 1st, but if the activity is like it has been in years past and we have warmer weather I would almost guarantee a shot opportunity. I wouldn't be able to help out with any transportation other than getting them up the mountain and i could aslo loan them a couple of rifles.
Also they would be hunting out of treestands. This is also a natural spring and no bait what so ever has been placed around it.
