10MM what kind do you have and what ammo do you use
« on: July 25, 2011, 01:40:14 PM »
I just picked up a glock 20. 10mm and have heard that allot of the 10mm ammo is not loaded as hot as it should so it pretty much makes it be just like a .40 :dunno: Im talking about the practice ammo.

also/ where are you getting your 10mm ammo, I have found it at sams gun club and at outdoor imporium

The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

If you plan on running factory ammo in a 10mm, Double Tap is the first name to pops into my head.

http://www.doubletapammo.com/php/catalog/index.php?cPath=21_25

Cabelas has a pretty good selection as well. Buffalo Bore is good stuff, so are the Winchester and Hornady loads.

Do you plan on reloading for it? That's where you'll see the most benefit. The Glock factory barrels are pretty hard on brass, even factory loads. I've had a number of factory loads split the case at the "Glock Smiley" on the case head. Running the high performance stuff on a regular basis will eat away your funds pretty quick too.

www.grafs.com    is a good place for ammo. Shipping is $ 4.95.
I use Hornady 200 grn.

If you're getting or been told 10mm ammo that is loaded to 40 cal power, I think somebody is pulling you leg. That just
seems far fetched.

I have a G20c (with various LW barrels), a G29, and a Kimber SS. (Yes I do like the 10mm for serious social occasions.

When i carry any of these, I shoot double tap ammo. I like the 135gr Nossler @ 1600 fps. I also load for the gun so I can practice more. The G20 and G29 both have 40SW barrels available.(As ell as 357 sig,) Use the same magazine, just shoot the cheaper ammo.

If I were to carry in the woods, I would opt for some 200 Gr or heavier bullets.

I use "Double Taps" as well. 200 grains FMJ's for woods carry and 180 grain JHP for personal defense. American Eagles (the cheap stuff) for plinking until I get reloading gear. I awlays buy online because its tough to find at your local shops plus I dont like my tax dollars going to the anti-gun libs pockets in this state.

I just ran a few buffalo bore 180gr jhp's through my glock the other day. They buck a little more than the american eagle stuff but all 10 shots were touching each other at about 12-15 yards.

Forgot to add that the buffalo bore loads will send the brass into orbit. I found all the american eagle stuff I shot but couldn't find one piece of the buffalo bore brass. Maybe they just vaporized? :chuckle:

Actually its not. I bought a G20 a while back and some cheap 10mm factory ammo. While at the range it shot at very close to the same speed as my cz75b in 40 over a chrony. That's the only factory stuff I ever used. I now use 200 grn xtps for sd and 180 grn plated berrys for practice (all handloads). I've heard that the buffalo bore is the stuff to get but one should really look into handloading as 10mm ammo isn't cheap. Its an awesome round, I'm pushing 1300 fps out of my g20 and 1200 fps out of my g29 (200 grns) .  My practice load is with blue dot and when shooting in low light its quite a flamethrower. If your going to run hot loads you should consider an aftermarket barrel since the Glock barels are known for lacking in chamber support. You can read a lot about it at Glock talk.

MWWASH has a G20 too and he was running some maxed out handloads with his stock barrel, if I remember right he was getting the famous (Glock smile) on his brass that isnt present with the lone wolf barrel. Maybe he'll see this and chime in.

Cheap or loaded at 40 cal ? My EAA Compact is a piece of crap. Been back to the factory 2x's and not a happy boy.

It was cheap ammo for plinking I cant remember the brand. It was 10mm but had the same speed as cheep factory 40 cal. I have not heard good things about those EAA's from some folks and decent reports from others, I almost bought one but the negative reports turned me off.

I decided to get a Glock 20 to take advantage of the hi caps, I figured it's the perfect woods gun. Last year I finished my bear with a .45 and the results were not as good as I'd like with a wounded bear. Anyhow I never wanted a Glock before because they are so damn fugly but now I have two Glocks and want more.

Alrighty then. The EAA guy lied to me about function and the type of ammo HE uses for warrenty, Round nose. I'm not one to be satisfied until it shoots all and any ammo. Anyhow, thanks Gutpile.

I'm sure I'm going to get some crap for this, but I shoot  .40 handloads thru my G20.  10mm is nothing but a longer .40s&w so I use the same ammo I have loaded for my STI Edge, which is loaded long any way.
WAY cheaper and has been very reliable.
When I carry it I shoot 10mm 200gr Hornady XTR.

If you read a bunch of the manufacturers claimed ballistics 10mm and .40 are very close for the most part.

gutpile what do you think the cost is for your reloads? I have a press so I would just need to get the dyes to reload the 10mm, I would also be interested in your reload recipe.

I have been looking at lone wolf aftermarket barrels for my glock, they are right around $100.00.
you can get a .40 cal barrel that drops right into the g20 and thats the only part you have to change out to be able to shoot .40s out of it. plus the aftermarket barrel they have is suppose to work great for 10mm cast bullets

I'm not really sure what it cost to reload on the average but the savings is considerable. if you do decide to reload I would just buy a 10 mm barrel rather than a 40 and practice with it. you can load mild rounds to practice with, and real thumpers for carry. if you do decide to reload get with me and I'll help you out if I can but there is tons of information on glocktalk.com
