CLP is the stuff. 0000 steel wool rubbed gently on the barrel with CLP.
Take an old brass case... smash the open end flat with a vise. use that end to scrape off the rust, it will not remove any bluing. Then use a good solvent to remove what brass may have come off on your barrel.... done, done. That is the old school way.

Bottom line never store a gun in a soft case you are asking for problems.
