Question about gun camo pattern
« on: September 22, 2011, 12:55:51 AM »
So I am buying a Benelli Super Vinci in the next couple weeks and want to use it for waterfowl AND turkey hunting, and was wondering which camo pattern I should buy. I know the Max-4 is meant for waterfowl and the realtree APG is more suited for turkey hunting, so which pattern should I buy??? Or should I just go traditional black so I don't look un-natural with the Max-4 hunting turkeys and the APG when I'm hunting waterfowl. Thanks! :brew:

I say get the Realtree because in my mind, camo on a waterfowling gun doesnt mattter as long as its not neon orange. And with turkeys, concealment and camoflauge seems a little more important.

I'd go with DuckHunter on this. You don't need it for waterfowl as much as you do for Turkey's.. so I would go with the APG. Like he said you don't even need a camo gun for ducks and geese.. my dad still uses a Remington 870 Wingmaster that is a blued finish with wood fore piece and stock.

Would you guys still recommend having two different sets of camo clothing, or should I save my money and just buy all APG stuff for both waterfowl and turkey?

just get apg.. that should be just fine.. just have your waders be max-4, duck blind, shadow grass, marshgass.. something like that.. you should be just fine that way! For a start it would be a great way to go and if you really get into it you'll find that you won't be able to stop finding cool new stuff to buy and spend your money on!  :chuckle:

You could use standard military camo if need be.  I wouldn't worry about which color you choose to much.  We use to kill turkeys just wearing green.  Eventhough you have many options it isn't necessary to have all.  It's great from a marketing and sales perspective you will buy more.

You don't need camo on a gun for turkeys or ducks.  It's just gun marketing hype.  All you need is to be still.

You can have any gun you own hydro dipped and covered in pretty much any camo pattern you want for a pretty reasonable price. Hydro-Dip http://www.hydro-dip.com/all_patterns.htm in Idaho does a lot of factory dipping for gun manufacturers and NorthWest Hydro Print is in Montesano, they too can do most camo patterns. http://www.northwesthydroprint.com/Camo-Patterns.html
