I'm gonna try todds idea first and go from there.

The insert itself broke, not the threads of the field tip. I can see the brass of the insert.

If there's none of the field point left in there, then there's also very little of the insert left in there.  The drill bit will work easy.
Bring a GPS!  It's awkward to have to eat your buddies!
