Memory Card Help
« on: July 31, 2011, 05:52:47 PM »
I was pretty sure I had read some post on here about memory cards. But I can not find the answers I am looking for. My cameras are 300+ miles from home :yike: so checking them everyday I am off is not really worth it. Over the last several years we would go ever monthly then biweekly as the season approached to check the cams, put in new batteries and manually delete all the pictures we did not want on the card (by viewing them through my little personal camera :bash:). This year I would like to start changing the cards when we go over so I can look them over at home and save what I want to keep from the pictures. I am looking at sandisk cards in the 4GB range. Does anyone know what the difference between class 2 and class 4 is? Does it matter for my cheap moultrie cams? What about the Ultras? Or the extremes? My cams are fairly cheap I ususally only take pictures (not much video) but I am not opposed to buying good cards, I just do not know what the differences are for the prices. Thanks for the help.

The class 4 is a "faster" card, but I don't believe it does anything to improve performance of the Moultries. Are yours D40's or D50's? That's what I have and I use the Sandisk 2GB class 2 cards, which you can buy at Wal Mart for about $10 each. I don't know if you need 4 GB cards. I believe the 2 GB cards will hold up to around 1800 pictures. I've never even come close to filling up my 2 GB cards, but I do check my cameras every two to three weeks.

Thanks Bobcat, yes last year twice I had over 1500 pictures on a couple of the cams when we went to check them. I have the D40 and a couple of the wildgame cams as well. I was thinking if I bought the larger cards I may put on or two of the cams in video mode. Last year I got pictures of a couple bucks sparing at thecamera and thought it would be really cool to actually see them tangle if it were to happen again. I was looking at 5 new 4GB cards on EBay for $36 with free shipping. It certainly looked like a fair deal if the cards were going to work. I may also buy a new camera to set up on the drive into the cabin to see how many two legged visitors and vehicles frequent our place during the archery season :dunno:. We have never had any issue (very thankfully , there are a few folks around that seem pretty honest, despite the trespass) but have got a few folks on camera and know there is traffic to a from the cabin that is not us.

I do have one 4 GB Sandisk class 4 card that my wife had for a camera that she doesn't have anymore. I have used it in my Moultrie D40 and it worked just fine. I have an external battery that I haven't been able to use with the Moultrie yet, because I need to buy an adapter so it will plug in, but when I do get that adapter I plan on running the camera on video mode and for that I will use that 4 GB card. I have not run the camera in video mode yet because I think it will suck the batteries down a lot faster than it already does.

my Wildgame camera specifies a maximum 2 GB card.  Got one with the camera, and bought a second card at Wallyworld for about $10.  Don't know if a 4GB card would work, though.
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"
