First Time Elk Hunter in the King County Area
« on: August 01, 2011, 06:28:22 AM »
I am new to Elk hunting and hunting in general and was wondering if there is anyone out there who would be willing to meet up with me and school me on Elk hunting areas and equipment. I would like to try to gather myself to hopefully be able to go out in 2012 and hunt the western side of the state.

If you have time to spare in the evening every once and a while I would like to learn about the elk hunt so I may someday share it with my boys.

Thank you
John

I can't personally help you, but let me tell you.  You stay on this forum for awhile and get to know some people.  You will gain a lot of knowledge and several legs up on your average first year elk hunter.  The key is, contribution, the more you contribute to the site, the more you will get out of it.  You will also probably find someone to personally share some info with you.

Cheers, and welcome to the wonderful world of elk hunting.  PS - Please do get your kids into it, I can tell you that when I was a kid, hunting was by far my most look forward to time of the year.  It still is!   It was the single most important factor to my dad and I having a VERY close relationship.

I'm a first timer, too. Let's meet up and figure out if we would not kill each other accidentally or on purpose (humor, bro, humor!) I'm planning to go for High Buck plus modern firestick deer & elk seasons in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness part of GMU 460. Harvest numbers there are pretty thin there but I'm more in it for the hike and the adventure and would count the meat as a bonus. There are people who pull a deer and an elk out of there every year so why not us?

I can second this sentiment ... except change Dad to Grandpa.  My grandpa died 16 years ago, and to this very day some of my most cherished lifetime memories are of hunting and fishing with him.  My kids (and I have a lot of them <natural and through marriage lol>) all fish, and are the boys are itchin' to go huntin' with dad.

If I can impart even 1/8 of the memories to any of my kids that my grandpa gave to me - my life will have been lived with purpose
