Went back out tonight. How big a bear?
« on: August 02, 2011, 10:37:51 PM »
So I went back to the same spot as last night where I ran into the bear.  There was a fresh pile in the road right where I heard it last night.
My question is how big a bear makes a 2 inch terd.  On average?

Well, I haven't officially prepared my study results yet...but I've shoveled a lot of bear crap out of culvert traps.  Here is the abstract from my research.

"Bear size is a function of turd diameter, when turd diameter (D) = popcan, then Bear Size (S) = huge"
"Do it in the woods"

It could have been 1 and 3/4 but I think it was closer to 2 inches.
How big is a bears home range?

Two inches around or long/ Also, what is the sectional density. You see, the more dense and finely packed (as Saylean mentioned) the longer the digestive tract and therefore the bigger bear. Also..was the pile off to the side of the road, right in the middle, or hidden discretely in the brush. I find that the bigger older bears really have no shame and will drop a duece in the middle of a shopping mall if the mood suits them. The younger and more timid bears usually are not as stoutly build and therefore a bit less confident and will poo much more discreetly.

What I meant was that from my experience seeing plenty of poo and hundreds and hundreds of bear pics on my cam the bigger the diameter and the bigger the pile the bigger the bear. Simple as that. Keep after it and I hope you connect.

My thought is not necessarily the size of the pile It’s more the diameter of the nuggets!  A really BIG bear has a  big butt and it’s not uncommon for them to leave scat the diameter of a beer can behind!  If you look at 10 piles of bear scat and then come across the one left by the big kahuna you’ll know
We have enough gun control. What we need is idiot control.
