hunting with shotgun slugs
« on: August 05, 2011, 03:49:35 PM »
i have a benillie super nova and right now i only have the full choke in it cause i lost the outher ones. and im thinking about going bear hunting in a firearm resticted area. and was wondering if i had to take the choke out to use the rifield slugs or is it better to leave it in. i can not use steel shot in the choke. thanks

Do not shoot it without a choke tube! Unless you want to ruin your barrel. You should probably pick up a improved cylinder tube for the slugs.

Or a fully rifled slug barrel for it.
Nothing like a Remington model 700xcr.

Finding one of these for a Nova is difficult at best. They are also pricey, almost better off just buying a separate shotgun

Open cylinder (no choke) would be best.  Forcing a slug through a choke is not good.
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

yeah listen to everyone else. dont shoot it without a choke tube. that will probably ruin the threads so you would never get a choke tube back in. Ive shot slugs through a modified choke, but full choke probably isnt going to be the best. IC is what is usually recommended on the boxes of rifled slugs.

Buy one of the savge 220f slug guns, bolt action slug gun, with winchester XP3's good to 100 yards on bear
