maybe this years....
« on: August 08, 2011, 08:23:24 AM »
I was hoping to find bigger.  This guy is a candidate, more for the pure challenge of it than anything.   Not sure how I will be able to connect with the longbow or not.   We'll see.  Contemplating if I will check out another haunt or not.

Yeah, come straight off the top like Tom Cruise with a little wire thingy...you can drop in like 3 yards above him then drill him between the shoulder blades like you did that big buck in 92 or so...

Seriously though... I think there's a fair chance that when you get back in there, you might find he has a bigger buddy that eluded you this time? Then again, eluding you?? Maybe not.

I'm hoping there were lots that eluded me.   I had my eye on a couple that I just couldn't see.   I'm a bit irritated that I packed 30 pounds of camera equipment in there and didn't take a single quality photo.  I was mostly after goats and I didn't want to scare the deer for obvious reasons.   I wish I could drop the dime on a cute little Swaro spotter.

Gonna be tough unless they change their patterns a bit.   There were three bucks in the slot to the right of this guy, all small.  I missed the shot.  They finally gave up on the heat.  This buck stayed here the WHOLE hot day.

I found four other bucks in another pocket.   The fourth barely revealed himself.  He stayed put until dark.  The third finally showed just before dark, coming out and laying next to the one in the shadows in this photo.  They finally got up and moved just at dark....

Thanks Saylean.   I do like challenges.

Wow bone, looks like your hunting on the moon with all that rock! How far above the timber are those guys hanging out? Great shots too, I think you can nail the big one with the sapphire. Good luck.

Maybe spend the year gaurding him, if he picked up some fronts next year he may place very well in the book! Ya right, if I had a pin or crosshair on him I would drop him without a second thought, great pics!

Are those through a spotter Bone? or just the zoom on your cameras they looked pretty good to me for the amount of disntace you were covering now as for getting on one in that stuff with a bow that may be interesting.

Just my camera and cropped in. THey were a LONG ways away.  I didn't want to disturb them.  Its certainly going to be tough, especially with my longbow.

Awesome Pics there Bone, Even though you said the quality wasn't there I still love the pics. For me it was well worth YOU packing that 30 lbs of camera gear.

Good luck getting the buck in the rocks if you go after him. Should be a challenging hunt

Thanks guys.  I was really hoping to get an eye on a monster so that I'd have more enthusiasm for the death march. LOL.   Really any deer in this environment would be a "trophy".

I've heard from my sources in the Central Cascades that it's been unseasonably cool this summer. Maybe the migratories haven't gone as far up the mountain this year. That's making me foam at the mouth for this season. We're hunting around 3400-3800 feet up, so hopefully there will be a few more bucks around in the early hunt. I would normally complain about this summer's weather (it's been over 70 in Port Angeles for maybe an hour or so this year lol) but it has certainly made for some of the best salmon fishing in recent memory, and hopefully a killer hunting season this fall.
