mobile blinds for ducks and geese

We have a few spots that we hunt that are a pretty far hike in to get to and each year we talk about how to better conceal ourselves. We usually just build a few blinds using the natural vegetation but it gets to be harder and harder because the wind, the other hunters and we think cattle usually end up knocking down our blinds and spreading out our materials. I have thought about a layout blind but with the length of the hike, it would be tough because we also pack in our other gear. I have a ground blind that we use for deer and elk but it won't work for birds as you can't open the roof and only have the windows to shoot out. What do you use or do you guys have any ideas of what we could use?

Hunting brant on the beaches of Rhode Island we would pack in some camo burlap and a shovel. Dig a hole big enough for you to lay in and then cover with the burlap. Works very very well.

Might not work for your area though...

At Del's they sell fiberglass step-in fence posts that are very light. Get 4 of those and a roll of  military style camo netting. The netting likely won't be the perfect color, but it will cover big holes. Mask the netting with whatever natural grasses/branches and it should work great! all materials very light and should be easy to strap to a pack frame or game cart.

I like both those ideas but one issue we have is that the ground is rocky and then come later in the season it is usually frozen solid and really hard to dig holes or pound in any stakes.

How about some camo burlap 

Light weight and you can drape or lay it over any thing.

Are there any trees around? If your ground is frozen, I would assume east side. Find some Limbs you can hang camo netting on. A hatchet is a very useful tool that can be toted out there. A big russian olive branch does well and people/animals are not likely to move it due to the prickly factor. You can then stuff the camo netting with cattails or whatever other natural plantlife. 

Is it a place you could pack into and drive some T-posts when the ground is thaw?

the only problem ive found with burlap is that on long hikes back is that it gains ALOT of weight when it gets wet. added to a stringer of ducks u are looking at 20 or 30 pounds extra if you shoot straight i have had alot of success with the light mesh netting ith a camo pattern printed onto it. its fairly inexpensive and very very very light. plus it doesnt suck up water and and doesnt mold nearlyas easily as burlap. plus it breaks down so small i stuff it in a fanney pack and have plenty of room for calls shells and extra gear. it will also hang easily from even the smallest twig. ive hung mine from cat tails because of the lack of sticks. hope this helps

i use lightweight camo netting and zip ties for all my hunting blinds... works great and its easy to pack in/out and the zip ties are great for hanging off of plants..
