25-06 loads?
« on: August 09, 2011, 11:10:36 PM »
buddy who is heading to montana this year with me just picked up a 25-06 which will be his deer rifle for this hunt.  I will be punching out the ammo for him but have no experience with the 25.  Anybody have any favorite recipes they would like to share, any preferences between the lighter faster 100grainers or the 120's.  I see hornady has a 110grain Interbond out now and was thinking that might be a lethal little bullet.  thanks in advance :hello:

I load 120 grn partitions over 49gr of 4350.  Pushes at just over 2900 FPS.  works good for me.  THis is out of a Ruger #1 26"

Can't go wrong with a partition or accubond. I shot the cts as well by nosler as well and liked them for mid sized deer. I will be using the cts in one of my handguns to smack some lopes! And accubonds in the rifle. Love nosler!

that is the bullet I was leaning towards the most and I use 4350 in all my big game rifles so that is also a plus.  thanks.

I load 117gr HORNADAY SST ...IMR 4350 @ 49.4 GR right at about 3000 fps  I also used to shoot 120 gr bullets forever but those 117 GR SST do just as good of a job .....as I said time & time again ( only hornaday bullets fly out of my guns   Its hard to find a load that will not shoot out of a 25-06 !

I crunched some numbers and I couldn't see shooting the 100's over the 120's.  They aren't that much flatter and don't hit near as hard.  I agree with you on hornady bullets and I told my friend that the sst or the partition are both good bullets but I would tend to lean more towards the partition.  Better weight retention and controlled expansion over the sst.  I used a 95gr sst out of my .243 on an antelope last year and was very impressed.
