.308 mauser?
« on: August 10, 2011, 06:50:19 PM »
Spotted a somewhat beat up Mauser in .308 at a pawn shop. Judging from online pics it might be a turkish mauser from the 1940s. It's about $100. Thinking of trading a .308 savage 110 that wears a 4x steel weaver for it. I've shot the savage. I'm not in love with it. Paid $150 for it. Mostly I want something with iron sights, which the Mauser has. Maybe get a different stock and turn it into a "scout rifle."

Any advice?

The only thing I would worry about is the heat treat of the steel.. however, the turkish mausers are normally very well made.

Does it have the original mauser sights?
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

yes, original sights, as far as I could tell. all original except someone inlaid some brass buttons in that skinny stock.

(I really want the sporterized remington m1917 from the same place but short on cash)

What model Savage are you looking to tade?  It sounds like the pawn shop owner might be getting the better end of this deal.  :twocents:

So are you trying to sell the savage or trade it to them?

 :yeah:

Most guys are going to by that gun for the action and throw the rest away.  Unless it is exceptional which I doubt for $100.00

If you want to get rid of that Savage, offer to trade it straight across for the m1917.  What is the worst that could happen?  He says no and neither one of you gets screwed.  :twocents: He probably did not pay much for it in the first place.

The pawn shop stated flat out they don't do trades. The savage is a 110 model long action, blued, blind mag, in .308

I am looking for just about any bolt rifle with iron sights and controlled round feed, just for my own learning as a rifleman. Preference to .308 or .30-06 because that's what I have stocked up.

Would also trade it for a Ruger vaquero or other single action revolver in .357 or bigger, 4" or longer barrel. Maybe that's worth more but you might have an ugly used one, and I ain't particular. If you got something to trade for the Savage, no cash, drop me a PM.
