Rings/Mounts for new Tikka .243?
«
on:
August 12, 2011, 02:04:30 PM »
Just bought a .243 Tikka for by 11 year old son. Anyone have any suggestions on mounts/rings for this rifle? It came with rings but have read some poor things about them? Any advice is appreciated!

HighCountry10 - what have you heard bad about their mounts? I just put a scope on my wife's new Tikka T3 Lite using the factory mounts, but we only have 5 or 10 rounds through it so far. Thanks!

I hate to say it but, the mfgrs don't put rings/mounts on guns that don't work. They spend a toad load of money to weed out the crappy ones. Try them and if they don't work to your satisfaction, change them. That's what I'd do.

I've heard that on the magnums the rings will slip. We've used leupold with good success. I use Talley lightweights on almost everything now. Here is a great link to check out. This is what I would do.

All mfgrs have bad rings. Someone will post it and everybody believes what some dipstick post's. I had a bad experience with an old girlfriend, doesn't mean they're all bad...

I have two Tikkas and I just did not like the rings that came with the gun(s). I put one piece DeadNutz (sp?) mounts on mine and could'nt be happier. I will admit that I did not give the Tikka rings a shot but they just felt above and beyond cheap to me.

The factory rings are just fine. they don't look like much but they get the job done. I was worried about them to you when I bought my T3 but ive used them for a couple years with no issues whatsoever.

They may work fine for some but I am one that does not like to risk things, the do not mount solid enough to suit me. For another $50 you can assure you will not have a scope slip.

Risk things? Like what? Obviously you can do whatever you want but it's just not necesary on a .243.

I have 3 Tikkas and use a Weaver/Picatinny style base with Leupold Rings. It is just a preference with me because it gives me more options for scope/ring placement for and aft. I am particular and like to get my eye relief set just right for me. The Tikka Rings are fixed and don't always allow me the adjustability I want. Nothing bad to say about Tikka, just a personal preference in my case.
