338 WIN?
« on: August 13, 2011, 04:40:23 AM »
I have a 338 browning and I love the gun but I was wondering who else shoots this round and what do you shoot out of it (bullets, weight). I only ask because even though the gun still hits what I point it at I believ it should be able to hold the same groups as my other guns (243, 308, 30-06, 300). I have spent lots of money and found the best shooting round for the other guns and thought this might be a cheaper way to narrow the field down.

Working up a new load with th 225 accubond.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

I notice alot of you are shooting either 210 or 225 grain bullets. Right now I am shooting 180 grain accubonds. Do you think the lighter bullet is making the bullets drift more.

With the lower b.c on the 180's they will be affected more. I like the b.c and knock down I get from the 225's. The lighter bullets don't do as good in my bigger guns. I shoot a 200g accubonds in my 340wby mag and anything lighter gets crazy.

A good compromise if you want to go light is the 200gr Speer Hot Core. They're a pretty tough bullet. I've had the best accuracy with the 250gr Hornady SP. I'll give up a little in group size to have a tougher bullet like the Accubond or Partition though. I've had really good luck with the Barnes 225gr TTSX as well.

That said, I've never had 338 Win Mag, all of these bullets were  shot from other 338s ranging from the 338 Federal to the 338 RUM.
