Remington 11-87 supermag problems
« on: August 16, 2011, 09:37:06 PM »
My son shoots a remington 11-87 supermag.  Went a whole season without problems.  Went out shooting tonight and firing pin is not resetting and safety is stuck off.  We just started reloading shells and have shot many rounds without problems.  Are the reloads to blame or does the gun need repair?

It might just need a good cleaning.  I'd try flushing the trigger assembly with brake cleaner.  If that doesn't solve the problem, it might need to be serviced by a good gunsmith.  Remingtons are pretty rock-solid guns.  It might just be gummed up with crud from the many rounds.
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

did you clean it when you first bought it? normally they will be coated out of the box and it always seems to be kinda gummy

Clean the hell out of it and then use a dry lube on all moving parts.
It's not true that I am good for nothing---I can be used as a bad example!!

Thanks for the info, you won't believe it.  Took it apart to find a spent primer jammed in the trigger housing.  Problem solved, now need to get a bigger primer for my reloads.
