Best bow accessories?
« on: August 13, 2011, 03:03:50 PM »
I'm new to bow hunting and wanted to get peoples opinions on what they believe to be the best accessories for their bows. I'm wanting to add a few things to my bow, but I am not sure what I should get. String silencers, kisser button, etc? Please list brands and why you think it is a must have for your bow. Thanks

String leeches work well but you will need a bow press to install them or have the pro shop do it for you if you don't have one. I don't use a kisser button, but you could just use a brass knock instead or some serving. What other types of accessories you want opinions on? Rests, releases, stabilizers, sights, custom strings? There are lots of threads on here discussing what people prefer and why if you search under the bowhunting and archery sections. It is going to come down to experimenting with different products on your bow to see what you like.

Thanks for the response. I didn't have too many accessories in mind, but I did want to customize my bow a little and figured I would see what were favorites among other bow hunters.

There is alot of archery accessories purely aimed at the " impulsive buyer ",  To have a bunch of do-bobs hanging from your bow that arent necessary can get expensive.  For me, I like Torqueless grips, and a nice wrist strap.  Brand of peep, sight, rest, etc., are individual preferences.  I have specific ones I like, but would also consider many others " impulsively".  Buy what ever turns your crank, you can always get started on your " tried but didnt like " drawer.

Bow square, extra bow string, Bow Master bow press. You will have the ability to replace your string if something unexpected happens at an inopportune time.

Thanks to everyone that replied. I will take a look at some of the suggestions and see what works best for my needs. I'm going to be taking my bow to Riverside Archery in Mt. Vernon (I hear good things about this place) to get set up and to get my arrows cut that I just got. Thanks again to everyone

RAD peep sights are a must :chuckle:

The two accessories that probably help more archers than anything else are peep sights and a good wrist sling.  Obviously the peep sights make sure the anchor point is reached consistently.  Used properly a wrist sling makes sure the bow grips you rather than you gripping the bow.  It is impossible for someone to grip the exact same way day in/day out.  But with a loose/relaxed hand the bow will fall into place with much greater consistency regardless of your temperament on a given day.

For a third out here in the west I would suggest spending the money on a real good arrow quiver.  One that holds the arrows very close to the bow as that reduces torque or twisting when shooting.  The arrow grippers and the hood should be separated by a good distance to keep the fletching from rattling against one another.  I prefer solid two piecers, but there have been a few new one piece models lately that fit the bill nicely too.

I hate to list brands as it is always a personal preference.  If you feel confident taking it into the woods and you like it.  That's probably the one for you.

My favorites = Tarantula wrist sling, Bear or Hoyt two piece quivers 4, 5 or 6 arrow, And of course RAD peeps (Super-Deuce 38 with or without Tru-Aligner)

The guys at Riverside are good folks.  You should be well taken care of.  Don't forget to ask them about string wax and proper application!

I got away from peep by using "Anchor Sight".  Have a doinker 10" stabilizer.  Going to get the Sizzor arrow rest.  Trophy ridge sight, but I might go with black gold sight as my next one.  Attach that to my Z7 and I think I will be happy...for a little while.

If your bow doesnt have one "stock" a string suppressor or leaches are huge IMO. Many older bows I have shot felt ten years newer simply with this added.

Echo RadSav on the quiver. get the best you can, single or two piece is personal preference.

 A bow sling.

I think a stabilizer is a great addition to a bow.  I got an inexpensive one and noticed it helped a lot with noise reduction right away.  I didnt notice a big help with shooting but Im not an expert shooter either.

Was a good bit of difference when I first started making them.  Competition has come on strong the past year and are doing pretty good.  Super-Deuce is a horizontal mounted aluminum peep and the Super-Deuce 38 is angle mounted.  The 38 is based on the Fletcher Tru-Peep design.  Ours has a wider and shallower circumference groove with no square slots.  Since it is anodized we can not use paint to cover up the sharp burrs.  So they are tumbled for 16 - 18 hours in 4mm ceramic triangles to radius all edges.  We also draft all aperture holes to lessen glare and widen the variety of axle-to-axle bows while achieving true round aperture viewing.  The horizontal model allows for more string rotation without aperture blackout.  It also works best for bows of extreme short axle-to-axle design (gets better the shorter you go).

Our Tru-Aligner allows the use of the superior angled aluminum design while giving self alignment tubing style to those who prefer it.  The two are served together as one solid piece.  My personal favorite when shooting bows that allow tubing (the Bear Assault's dual suppressor forces me to eliminate tubing from that setup).  We will have the website up again soon with much better photos and instructions.

We have a lot of other peeps as well, but in my opinion these are the best we produce.

Not the place for RAD to advertise here.  So if you have further questions just give a call 360-896-1120.  I'm more than happy to help with equipment and/or hunting questions.  Just ask for Bryan.  The guys at Riverside know our product line very well and can answer nearly all the peep questions too.

As few as possible!!! The more stuff you have on your string the slower you bow becomes.
Use a D loop, a good light peep and string chubs...the rest is what you need to shoot well, arrow rest, sight and counter balance.

I think the most important accessories are the ones you can use to tune or repair you bow in the field if needed. I carry a small pencil pouch in my backpack filled with repair stuff, extra peep, pliers, different strings for serving, D loop and drop away cord, string splitter, lighter....things like that are great to have with you in the field.

Don't way your bow down with stuff you do not need on it ;)

Good luck,
Fulla

I shoot an X-force, and besides the rest and stabilizer, by best accessory has been a backstop.  It reduced the noise and vibration significantly, and just plain feels better to shoot now.

My support of the RAD Super Deuce goes back to probably when they first appeared on the market.  I did not know RadSav is involved.

Back when all the metal D-loops and knocks with fins that clamped onto your string to align peeps first hit the markets, soon followed by the string loop, now more commonly refered to as D-loop.......SO, all this stuff first appeared as solutions to string rotation that took peeps out of alignment, in response to getting rid of tubing aligners.

So, back then, ( to a lesser degree now ), when the string decides to rotate, your D-loop wound up 90 degrees to the riser as it tried to render itsself.  To maintain, adjust your loop, and if shooting an angled peep, press your bow and turn your peep around.

All this monkey business made me go to the RAD Super Deuce because of its horizontal mount , requiring no adjustments if the string wanted to rotate.  SInce I shoot off the string, ( many of us still do ), there is no headache involved with a bit of rotation, like when you shoot in a new string.....A simple turn of the peep before  drawing your bow ensures proper alignment.  For me, this has worked well for many years......Even friends who shoot loops, like this peep, they can adjust the loop as required, without moving the peep.

I use different sizes for different set ups....small and large pin guards on my spot-hoggs,dove tail mounts allow me to adjust pin guard to fit inside peep.....just alot of reasons
for me to use this product. For me, its as simple as it gets.  And its not a covenience issue to get to a shop for help....I have two presses and change strings regularly, and still choose to do it this way. :twocents:

i second the radical sights. i got mine and a custom string made and the difference in the peep sight is amazing on how much easier it is to see through. custom string is also the way to go. ill never run a factory string again! the new string fixed a bunch of problems i was having and tightened my groups up a lot. huge difference. i think its even shooting faster because i had to raise my 40 and fifty yard pins.

Thank you buckfvr - I need your address before I can get this "Promo" check in the mail. :chuckle:

There are a lot of good peeps out there these days.  Many made by some darned good people. Makes it really enjoyable when the folks at G5, Fletchers, and Specialty get together with us at the ATA for stories and a few laughs.  Not many industries where so many competitors can get along and enjoy each others company.

Only big difference between us is that RAD customers are way better.
