Anyone else notice, .....
« on: August 14, 2011, 06:09:21 AM »
Put my camera and mineral block out as soon as Chinook Pass opened ~ 7 miles down the Bumping River road. Same as I do every year.

After 3 weeks had 916 pic's and the blocks were "licked away". I replaced the blocks.

Checked 2 weeks later and had only 157 pic's.

Checked again yesterday after 1 week, ...................  NO PIC'S!!!!

Camera is working fine as it fires when I walk in front of it. Where'd the Elk go. My guess is they went up high to avoid the heat and bugs. Never seen the bugs as bad this year! Anyhoo, anyone else hav'un this happen to their camera?

Lee

May and june were awesome for me. July and august have been slower. Still getting pics but not as many. As long as the cows stick around I know well find the bulls...

im kind of counting on that. my cams have only picked up a few elk up to this point. im hoping the change pushes them into my cameras in the days leading up to hunting season. otherwise, my cams have been in average locations at best for animal usage.

They did it last year. Cams were in beginning of june. I had been getting an average of 100 pics every 2 weeks. mid aug on 2 cameras were getting hit all day and night 1000+ pics each every time i checked them. 1 stayed about the same.
a little luck never hurt. luck=scouting

Its not a pattern change if you have a salt lick out .... the need for salt dwindles as the lush grasses And browse begins to dry up in August.

that's why you start seeing all these big bucks on trail cams now... the quality of food has really diminished now in the woods,so the bucks are starting to hit baits which are a better quality then what they can eat as browse. happens every year.
