Elk or Moose?
« on: August 15, 2011, 01:22:14 PM »
Quandary....
If given the choice to go for Moose or Elk which would you go for and why?
14 hour drive up to Edmonton, or stay in Washington.. price about the same for guided.

Excitement factor?

Thanks

Moose.  Because the opportunity in WA is almost non-existent, so I'd probably never get to go moose hunting unless going out of the country or out of state.

And because moose are really BIG. :)

Guided moose in Canada or guided spike bulls in WA...
hmmm let me think about that...............

If it costs the same I'd go for the moose, especially since I haven't shot one yet.  Mostly because there is more meat on a moose than an elk.  I'm trying to get a bigger blacktail also and not for the antlers but for the meat!!!  Looking forward to cutting up meat again.

I understand that Moose meat is supposed to be awesome...  My background in Elk hunting has been hunting the back country of Idaho, horseback in etc.  very different from what I'm hearing about hunting Moose in Canada, where the guide I talked to was mentioning hunting the edges of fields?  Anyone of y'all hunted both?
Yes... dreamunelk... I think Elk are much better looking.

would depend..if I could go on a quality bull elk hunt with a chance to shoot a big bull I would lean towards that..nothing like chasing bull elk...moose are fun,but I could see it wearing out fast

If the moose guide places you in a tree stand for 10 hours a day every day for a week, I could see where that would get tiring.  But if you are going to go out and try to call in a bull moose, that would be a real kick.  So, I guess it depends on the methods of hunting that your guide will be doing as to what hunt you will enjoy more.

No brainer, Moose for sure.  They are killing some VERY nice bulls along the field edges around Edmonton.  I don't think they do a lot of treestanding up there for Moose, predominantly call along the field edges.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.
