start packin...... or not just yet?
« on: August 15, 2011, 01:43:04 PM »
Just got off work and made a mixed one. Sitting here reading all kinds of stuff bout hunting. Feeling the impulse to get out in the shop and put all the hunting stuff together and load it in the trailer. Would you wait for a week or go for it now and get it over with?
I know my memory is not what it used to be and I can just see myself out there in the middle of the night pulling stuff out of drawers and cabinets looking to see if I packed this or that. I have used lists before and i still second guess myself even the next day.   What are you all doing now to get ready??????????   HELP!!!!!!! :bash:

I won't even be packing in a week. It will take me about 20 minutes to get my stuff together though...couple tote boxes and I'm pretty much ready to roll.

I started packing and have been repacking.  Trying to shave off a few pounds.  I have a tune up trip the last weekend of August so I can't put everything together yet but I will soon after that.  This is a fun time of year.  The only thing that gets me down is the spike only season for archery.

I finally broke down and organized everything into plastic bins, labeled them on the outside and color coded.  Now I just grab the Right combo of bins and I am good to go.

I'm not packing it up yet, but I'm getting my stuff out to make sure that it's in good shape so I still have time to replace/repair if necessary.  I like this time of year - it results in a good amount of time fiddling with gear and getting it just right before I go thrash it for the next few months.

I am also getting all of my gear out and making sure it is still all there, sharpening knives, axe, knives again.  I end up supplying a lot of the group camp gear such as tents, heater, stoves, lanterns, etc. so I have plenty of stuff to get ready.  Here is a question though. . . Do you guys buy new Elk piss each year, does it go bad???  I have had a bottle for a couple years and it still smells like elk piss!  My wife still thinks its disgusting!

Or should I just pony up the $6 and dump out the old stuff by my blind?

im not packing yet but i am going through stuff and starting to dig it out. through the spring it some how always seems to get buried in tons of crap  and i have to find it all and start making a check list. i like to leave the list on the table in the living room so i can look it over all the time and add things when i think about it. then i check it off the list as i put it in totes or load it in the truck. make sure you put your hunting licence on the list "long story" but lets just say that year my dad was pissed when we had to turn around and drive back an hour. i always write on the list the stupid stuff that you think you would never forget now.

*for things i always forget

phone, phone charger*, licence, sun glasses, pillow*, copy of the regs, ect...
they call me the bloodhound cause i can track a wounded animal in the rain for 2 days when all it has is a splinter.. sniff sniff awooo

the hunting license thing is very funny. My buddy had to drive 200 miles back home to get his. Didn't know he forgot it until we got out at the gate 45 min before day light opening morning. he made it back in time for the late hunt that evening. used my truck to drive all the way there and back. Made it all good by having a case of cold 1's back at camp.  Still give him chit bout it every year.  :chuckle:

My Camper is always set to go. I just add food and hunting gear.
My BIGGEST dilemma every year is do I keep shooting my bow right up too the day or pack it away. I always get that feeling that the next 10 arrows it may go out of time and I wont get her dialed in again in time? Guess I need 2.... :dunno:
I do however always shoot a few the night before the opener in camp. Boy if I had a problem then Id be #@%&ed!

I do the lay out system, empty the spare room and divide everything in neat piles so I can stand and take visual inventory of everything ,kind of a left over habit of being in the army for so long. I've been ready for 2 weeks and can't wait to get hunting.my wife thinks I'm nuts because I'm always staring at the room tyring to figure out that one thing I might need once I get in the woods. I take it as part of hunting and its half the fun of the whole experience.
