Yeah I didn't like the "extra testosterone" post.  Why he needs to mess with that is beyond me.  That must be what the Univ of Oregon does; I think that is his major flaw... being a duck fan.

Whoa, Whoa, Whoa there!!!!!!  I was in agreement with your statement until the U of O part!  I've been a DUCK FAN for over 10 years and come on now you can dislike the person but don't go talking about the DUCKS!!!!!!!!!!   :bdid:   :nono:  Aside from hunting during the fall time DUCKS Football takes precedent to everything else even the Seahawks.

Don't other animals eat ducks? Like Huskies and Cougars? I could've sworn I hear that somewhere.  :dunno:

people talk of being in shape... but I think ones will to " have" something goes alot farther than just being in shape. I am in decent shape..no cameron hanes and I get after it. I know some hunters who are in amazing shape and dont get out of the rig or even want to get up in the morning. To me its the desire and passion for what you want will take you alot farther.

I agree but being in shape doesn't hurt.   :IBCOOL:  My biggest hinderance to more success is time afield; that will change when the kids are older.

They do if they can catch them! :rockin:  I remember last year those dogs and cats were just dying trying to keep up with the aerial assault and the ground game, they looked like speed goats out there running up and down the field not DUCKS!  So yeah occasionally they caught one and had a meal but they just couldn't catch them all! :IBCOOL:  From what I've been reading on the Huskies this year it sounds like they might actually have a chance since they've bulked up their O-Line.  I've been reading they increased their average weight by almost 15 lbs and put on some quickness so it sounds like Sarkisian is getting serious this year. :dunno:  But that will only last through a quarter or two and then the DUCKS will prevail once again. :kneel:

:yeah:  Very true and I'm just the same way.  I might've put some weight on but I will still go up and down the hills it just takes me a bit longer.  The fire that was instilled in me as a young Marine still burns and even in my current shape I will take on the hills like a young buck to get what I want.

Lol, those Ducks were amazing last year. And, I'm really and UNH fan at heart (alma M.). They don't win too much of anything!

As far as shape is concerned with reference to whether or not you even get out of the truck, the problem for me in years past is that being out of shape (or in a round shape) means that even though I do go into the woods a good off-the-road distance, I didn't have the physical tone to handle either the terrain or packing the meat as well as I could have. This year, with my HUGE emphasis on conditioning and stamina, I'm more psyched than ever and will be taking advantage of my new found strength and lost pounds. I'm so stoked for what's to come in less than three weeks!

From what I've been reading on the Huskies this year it sounds like they might actually have a chance since they've bulked up their O-Line.  I've been reading they increased their average weight by almost 15 lbs and put on some quickness so it sounds like Sarkisian is getting serious this year.

They picked up Sankey from G-Prep as well.  I laughed when that decision was shoved down Wulff's throat   That said, to even further  :jacked: this  :jacked: ....... Go Eags  :IBCOOL: (Who ironically play the Huskies for the season opener this year).

I took being in shape for granted in my 20's.  It caught up with me when I was 30.  Vowed last year to be in the best shape of my life by 35 (2 months from now) and I can happily say I'm there.  It's a mentality now, and I only plan on getting more and more conditioned as the years go by.  I used to laugh at the concept of "old man strength" as we used to call it - then last night rolling hoops at the Y against some highschoolers I found that there appears to be some truth to the theory

Go get 'em, Cedar. You and I will put some meat on the table this year, I feel confident about it.

Congrats pianoman and good luck this year.

If you want the best hunt of your life, you'll have both the desire and the physical conditioning to make it happen.
I have had 5 phases:
1.  Motivation and physical conditioning when I was young and thought that extreme physical effort equated to a good hunter (I walked a million miles from before light until after dark and didn't always hunt very smart)   >:(
2.  Motivated and physical conditioning and I learned how to hunt a little better
3.  Physical conditioning and lack of motivation due to other stuff going on in my life :(
4.  Out of shape and no motivation, again due to other stuff going on in my life (I think I was still in better shape than 75% of the people out there and lack of motivation was relative - I still hunted my @$$ off)  :'(
5.  Out of shape and motivated   :bash:
6.  In shape (and continuing to get in better shape) and motivated - where I am now and have been for the last couple of years

I agree that the desire to get out there is important but be in good enough shape to get where you want to go and still enjoy the trip.  Suffering the entire time is no fun (well, it can be but it's better if you're really accomplishing something rather than just trying to get up a trail.)

running ultra distance in the mountains = excellent scouting opportunity.
just don't sign up for any fall races: too hard to train when all free time is spent hunting.

Thanks Halflife. I've gone through about the same changes, too. I'm really happy where I'm at this year, both physically and mentally. Two weeks, baby!
