need a mentor...
« on: August 17, 2011, 12:15:30 PM »
I learned elk and deer hunting from my dad, grandfather, and uncles growing up. None of them waterfowl hunt so I decided 2 years ago to try it. I've had mixed success... It seems like i can never get on the greenheads or geese. I've shot nearly every other species and have yet to get one greenhead or goose... :dunno:   I'd really like to tag along or have someone come with me on a hunt. i know its asking a lot but i just want to see how other people do it.

Sounds like you're no leading them enough.  It's hard to get the concept of "getting out ahead of 'em" when you've been a rifle shooter all your life.  I had to work hard at it, too.
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

not so much my shooting... ive shot trap my whole life. i can fold them whenever theyre in range lol. the duck i've shot the most of are green winged teal... i figure if i can hit them i'm doing ok shooting lol I've just never had an extremely successful day of hunting waterfowl... ever. i just want to be a casual observer and try to improve my technique. Im no slouch. I'll listen to whatever rules, help with the gear/setup, pay my share, and not get in the way. I like to think i'm an agreeable person.

I haven't hunted ducks since the late '70's.  Hunted upland birds after that until my dog got too old and died in '02.  Got so bummed I sold all my shotguns and just hunt Rockchucks and Coyotes, and a little Deer with blackpowder.  Forgot most of what I knew about bird hunting.  Can't help much on that score...

Not being humble...don't know a thing about ducks other than I like them with orange sauce and those little sweet rolls to make little duck sandwiches.
