Where to go?
« on: August 18, 2011, 01:19:58 PM »
so next week i got four days off to do some quality bear hunting.  I have been hunting of off I 90 and high way 2.  The only thing that i have seen so far is my bank account getting smaller. I haven't seen any sign or any bears. nothing at all.  So I was thinking about heading up around concrete or down by shelton.  I scouted around concrete before the season and didn't see anything. But that was also my first time in that area.  Shelton area I don't know at all but I know a guy down there that said he might be able to go with me one day.  So if you had four days of where would you go for the best oppurtunity.  I really wanna shot a bear but i would be thrilled just seeing sign and know that i am in the right area.  I have just spent to much time and money to keep going without seeing any sign.  Don't know if i am hunting the wrong areas or what.  but i have been trying to learn these areas on my own. I am almost to the point of giving up.

Nah, don't give up. I would suggest firing up google earth and looking for "new" clearcuts accesible off forest roads at various elevations. If you find a few that look promising check the date of the image. I look for 2008 or 2009 images on new clearcuts. That will give a few years growth and possible good areas. Maybe some water, dark timber.

Having hunted the shelton area a bit for a couple years it would not be my first pick I would go back to the highway 2 areas and look for berries and sign.....I lived out that way for a number of years and there were bears around back then....always ran into them just out and about...

Over off the main drag. Just look for my truck. I've got a flag in back. Big flag. It covers up the apples, dog food, dead beavers from my trapping areas, molasses, doughnuts, and other misc sweets I like to have handy when I hunt bear. I love 'em so much I ususally keep them in a 50 gallon drum chained to a tree. Just follow the sweet smell of my honey pot and you'll find your way.
