U.S. Military Packboards
« on: August 19, 2011, 06:17:10 PM »
OK, call me old school.  Yes, I still use the old US issue packboards.  I've packed out elk and equipment more than a few miles on them.  I know they're not the most comfortable thing but hell, they were cheap.

I recently came across one at a second hand store.  Although it was pretty rough, the main frame was still solid.  It needs a new canvas.  Anyone know where I could find someone to make me a new canvas without breaking my bank or spending more money than what a new / modern pack frame would cost?

Thanks,

T6

Is it the canvas or the rope that connects the to canvas to the frame?  They are great for packing, just wish they had hip straps.

Its actually both.  I don't think the rope will be an issue but looking for someplace to get some canvas work done.  Maybe a tent maker or sail maker?

I think you will end up spending more than you would on a new modern pack frame.  :twocents:
