Helping our injured Hero's

I don't know if this is the correct place to throw this idea out there or not. Hopefully I don't get in trouble with the moderators. I'm sure like all of you, around this time of year the outdoor, and sportsman channel makes its appearance on our TV more than usual. Sitting back and watching some of these hunting outfits do great things for our men and women of the armed forces who have been disabled, by taking them on free hunts providing the opportunity to once again do something they love but financially could not otherwise do anymore.

I would sit and think to myself, "Boy, I wish I was in the position to do something like that for some of them." Then the thought occurred to me that, "I am," and we all are just not by ourselves. So I guess I am throwing this out there to see how many other people would be willing or think it is a good idea to maybe start a fund, ran by a group of forum representatives or the moderators or something, that we could contribute to all year long so that when hunting season came along, we could have the ability to provide one or a few with the opportunity to do something he or she can no longer do due to injury in the service of our country. I am just one person, but I know this forum is filled with a lot of good ethical like-minded individuals. Alone we are one but together we are many, just imagine what we could accomplish.

I don’t know the legalities or if it is even possible to do. Just thought I would throw the idea out there to see if it would stick. I think the opportunity to help a few of our hero’s by footing the bill for one or a  few disabled hunts with an outfitter could absolutely make the difference in someone’s life.

Let me know what you all think and if it would be possible.

great idea man, my first suggestion would be check with the VA outta seattle for all i know there ma already by a group in WA that does that and you can volunteer/donate to that and if there is not one you will get headed in the right direction. the other option is go to your local VFW and see if there are any vets who would like to go hunting or fishing with you! when i was stationed in florida i used to go fishing once every other week with a disabled vet made some great memories and a life long friend! keep us posted on what you find out i am sure there are others who would enjoy doing the same!

Shouldn't be a problem.   We kind of do something like this already with the Joshua Cup that is ran yearly.  It wasn't done this year because of the lack of time and organizing on my part but I guarantee it will be in full swing next year.   Since last years winner finally got the plaque this year, he can hang on to it for awhile to make up for it.   

The other thing that I am thinking might be more successful is having quality folks hook these guys up for a hunt or outdoor experience.  Funds are tight right now, I mean seriously tight with a lot of folks, so this may be easier than just raising money.

bone.....I agree, raising money isnt the easiest right now. I would gladly volunteer my time to help out with a disabled hunt, but my problem is that I just don't have the means to get a truely disabled vet around and into the field. Thats why I thought maybe getting an outfitter involved who might have the ability to do this would be a good idea. Problem is ....as always...money. I have never used an outfitter before, so I dont know how much they run for something like this, but I figured as many members as you have here. If everyone just gave $1, we could probably have enough to get 2 disabled vets out into the field. I don't know...maybe its a longshot and a pipe-dream, I was kinda just thinking out loud on the forum.

I hope its not a pipedream.   Sounds like a great idea that I hope comes to reality.   Good place to brainstorm.

Ya me too...I am going to take twist's advice and check with the VA and VFW to see what kind of requirements are necessary if any. Then check into the legalalities of actually doing something like this. I'll let you know how things progress in the coming weeks.    Wouldn't it be pretty cool to be able to get a few of these guys out to have some fun and make a few dreams come true!!!!
