We found a track!!!!! We went out and incorporated a deer area scouting with looking for bear. The area we hunt is in Wynoochee. In the morning we scouted some (lower) areas for deer and while we were out there we were also looking for bear sign. After a couple of scouts, we headed up higher (only about 1700 ft elevations though). We found some areas with berries up high and open fields but only found more deer sign (And not that much either). We kept looking high and then decided to walk near some water sources. After soaking our boots and feet, we called it a day. We explored allot of new areas and got some deer scouting done. We saw a bear track and some AWESOME landscape. But aside from the one track, nadda on bear.
Now for a few questions regarding tactics;
Is 1700 to low?
Was walking the creek a good or bad idea? Are they going to be near the creek looking for fishies this early or is that a crap shoot?
We plan on heading out again soon. It was fun and it was also a definite learning experience (As is EVERY day in the woods for me).
One last question, are you all a sit and wait or walk and stalk for bear?
Thanks again next time I won't forget my camera in the truck all day!
