My Browning BAR .270 weatherby mag, leupold 4x16, pushing a barnes ttsx 110gr at 3500+fps.
Like shooting a .22
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

If cost is no consideration:

In my opinion the 257 wtby with a custom match grade barrell, aftermarket trigger, huskemaw scope, best grouping quality handloaded bullets, with the tallest harris bipod would be pretty tough to beat as a lope getter. I love that caliber, it is so flat shooting, no recoil, just hold dead on out to 300, just hold a little higher on the shoulder at 400. (but do not hold over)

My next choice would probably be the 25/06, nearly as flat shooting, set up the same way. After that I think the 270 WSM or Wthby or the 264 WinMag are excellent, followed next by the 243/6mm's.

I have used my 300 wthby, and have seen guys use 7mm's and 338's, but honestly that is just overkill. I have also used my 220 swift, but I think a little more bullet is probably better.

If cost is no option I too would go with a 257wby match barrel, custom trigger. I would probably top it with schmidt & bender mil dot glass, Harris bi-pod and the best handload i could find. A friend of mine in eastern Montana has this set up and killed his lope at 968yrds last year and shoots yotes out that far all the time. Anything over about 550-600 is pushing it for me but that set up is more than capable in the right hands. :)

 :yeah:

i could live with something like this
"Right now, I am thinking that If my grandmother was here, she would be lecturing me about how there are poor people in Africa, that would just love to have a Ruger, I would just say "Great, granny, lets just ship all the Rugers to Africa!"

It sounds like it's time to get a new gun.

The Weatherby .257 is a great choice. I will be bringing my .270 Win Weatherby Backcountry to Wyoming this year for my 1st antelope hunt. Also, I will bring my 7-08mm Rem Weatherby Vanguard as a backup. I not planning on having problems, but you never know.

Current antelope gun is a ruger 77 in 25-06 with handloaded 115gr accubonds at around 3200fps.  Topped with an older Burris signature series scope in 4x12, not really sure I could build anything with any truly appreciable improvement on that combo.  Maybe could make it lighter, but dead is dead.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.

300 win mag loaded with 130 grain Barnes TTSX. 3500 FPS. I am going to start using this load on deer as well. The way I sight in, I can hold dead center on an animal and hit it out to 350.

When I think Antelope I think 25-06.   One of the fastest/flatest shooting big game calibers out there.   If I don't have a bow in my hand thats what I would be using to hunt them.

I have a 257roy, but for wind country.....make mine a quick twist 6 wizzum or hawk and blow the wad on a s&b pm scope. I would give BAT a go for the action and drop it in a mc stock

What can a 6mm WSM do that a 257 Weatherby can't?

I used a Stevens .243 with 100 grain bullets and it was more than enough to knock them down last year...
