In wy with 10 tags to fill in 4.5 days I aint trophy hunting on this trip

Carp,
I think you'll be surprised how easy it will be to fill those tags.  Hold out at least the first 2 days  :twocents:

Thanks Gringo. I will be trying to get it done with my handgun. I would like to shoot all ofthem with it. I will pack a rifle as well. We have some great ground to hunt so I might hold out a little. I want a nice euro of a lope. I have already shot a 80" goat and have a shoulder mount but i love skulls, so i want a decent buck to do a euro with.

I would have a Cooper Jackson Hunter built in 257 Weatherby with a Nightforce 5.5-22X56

Antelope are not tough animals, but often times the shots are long. I killed 3 this year with my 300 weatherby ( I haven't shot my 257 in a while and was just more comfortable witht he 300) and I would say it may have been a slight overkill, but there was no meat loss due to the larger caliber, all the shots were right behind the shoulder and punched right through dropping them in their tracks.

I got this for this exact reason

Savage 111 LRH in 6.5x284 Norma using 130 Grain Berger VLDs with a Nikon Monarch 4-12x44 BDC.

Aside from an actual custom made rifle, this is about the best factory lope gun I could find!

i'm working on a 6mm Rem on a Yugo 24/47 mauser.  walnut stock cut on my own pattern, Herter's J9 take off barrel, '93 spanish mauser hinged bottom metal, Bold trigger, Dayton Traister safety.

the barrel has some marks i need turned out, the stock is 98% inletted, the receiver is 90% surface polished, need to weld on the new bolt, drill/tap and finish!

it won't be a 900 yard wonder-killer, but within 300 yards (my comfortable shooting range) i shouldn't expect any issues.  if that one fails me, my browning safari .270 has been blooded on antelope earlier in it's life.  with it's new stock, it's never fired a round.  might be time... :bfg:

Got the right idea on the chambering, I would lean towards the 140's. There is a world of difference in performance on game between the 130 and 140 when it comes to the 6.5-284 and the .270 WSM. The 140 in my experience anchors animals quite a bit harder and quicker than the 130.

For me it would be my winchester model 70 xtr sporter topped with a Burris fullfield 3-9x40 chambered in .270wthby.

Everyone posts about Weatherby cartridges and their lousy free bore but the majority say the ultra mags are to big. Ha, go figure! :chuckle:
