You don't have to have an eastside permit to build points for the eastside. Don't tell anyone else I said that though, OK?
Points are points, east or west doesn't matter.

but to put in for branch antler bull east side i have to have an eastside tag and if i don't get drawn like i didn't...  i have to hunt the eastside.  So what i should of said was I'm trying to draw an eastside branch antler bull tag with 0 points this year 1 point next year so on so fourth.

I don't mean to come off like a jerk but I probably will anyway...

It's tough getting good info from a bunch of guys who have spent thousands of $$ in gas and countless hours of time scouting and learning areas....especially when you tell them you don't have any time to scout and don't want to spend any money.

I'd go to Ravens Roost and start looking around. Even the rifle hunter *censored* show guys put their time in learning that country.

I'll get off my soapbox now.

Never once did i say i "didn't want to spend any money".  I have spent thousands of dollars every year I've been out and i will again this year.  I have spent entire seasons in in elk camp by myself.  i am one of the "guys" you speak of.  if i were glassing country with my rifle scope you'd say i was "learning the country".   :twocents: ill get up there four days before season and wont leave until the last day if i have to. elk will go down.

Just head over and put in some boot work.  The naches is a good unit, just look at the reports.  Pick some spots on google maps that look good, water sources etc then scout them out.  You can cover a lot of land in one weekend of scouting.  Keep working at it and each year you will find more and more honey holes.  Don't expect to bag one this season although you easily could.  Sometimes its best to not have a clue of what to expect.

Read up online, search around.

I don't hunt this unit.  But know people who have.

ill get a few days before season.  the reports look good i agree 10% ish.  ill find a few hh this year i hope.  Thanks for the info man i cant wait for the upcoming month it's on!!!! :chuckle:

Dont be discouraged.... get over there and kill a elk

You can always cros the hwy and shoot a spike in the Nile unit, there will deffinatly be less poeple over there.

 I'm on it.  You can shoot spikes in naches.  I might end up heading down 12 goin to rimrock aswell.  Thanks man I'm ready to kill.

I would hunt the units you applied for tags in, then if you get drawn you already know the area.

 :yeah:

Where did you apply for bull permits at? At least if you do get drawn you will know the area. Most of the units you should be able to hunt spike or cow if you don't have a bull permit.

I was just reading about what you do when you know where you want to hunt and don't have time to scout. He was saying that you scout during the middle of your hunting days and drive the roads after dark for a few hours. Elk don't move much from where you see them at night. Just some thoughts. Good luck.

If you dn't want to help a fellow hunter out, why not just keep your suppositions about his supposed lack of dedication or cheapness or whatever to yourself?  He just asked a simple question about where to get started in an area he doesnt' live near with little time to learn it due to lack of time or having higher priorities in life like family and a J.O.B.    I just don't get this desire to look 'hardcore prostaffy' by kicking a fellow hunter in the nuts for asking a simple 'where?" question.

I realize lots of you put in tons of time developing your spots.  That's certainly commendable and keeps your freezers full more often than not.  So enjoy that to yourself then.  He wasn't asking for GPS coordz to your honey hole.

If I knew the little Nach i'd give you some starting points.  If you're interested in Bethel, Rimrock, i have suggestions.
