Washington State Bowhunters open board positions
« on: August 25, 2011, 12:13:44 AM »
The WSB currently has 2 open board positions.  Those interested or nominations can be sent to me.  The WSB is an organization formed in the 1970's that works to protect your bow-hunting opportunity in WA.  I would love someone with a passion for bow-hunting and a little time to help make a difference.  Thanks!

There has to be someone who has the interest and time for these positions. Can you explain how much involvement will be required?

I have a wife, kid, run a law firm, work long hours, shoot 50+ days of photography a year, and still find time to be the president of the WSB.  I like to keep busy and if you enjoy what you do it's worth it.

These are great questions, however.  I don't feel it's a lot of time but it would be a commitment.  We hold approximately 4-5 board meetings a year.  These meetings take 2-3 hours and we hold them in various places but generally base them on the west side to accommodate most of our board members.  There is a banquet in the march-may time frame and a fun rendezvous shoot in July.  You can miss the occasional meeting if needed.  Beyond that, we try and have our representatives at various game department meetings.  How involved and how many you might go to will depend on the individual and time constraints.  It's a good way to get involved and a great way to get your voice heard and help exact meaningful change in the current rules/regulations.  It's not for everyone but I would like to get some new blood on our board that would help take the organization into a positive direction.

Board meetings are open to the public and people are free to come to one to try it out.  I'll be setting one soon for the fall and will publicize the date/time.  Thanks!

Anybody?

Thanks for the bump.  I'm in it for the long haul so it's fine if it takes time to find the right people that fit.  I find it's really surprising that people don't really want to get involved anymore.  I wonder if we lost all our bow seasons if some bow hunters would step up and create a group to try and get some archery seasons again in WA or would they all just become gun hunters?  This is exactly what some bow hunters did in the 1970's forming this group.  I know there are a lot of people who are really knowledgeable on the bow seasons/rules/regulations.  It really helps trying to create some change when you have 700 members to back your position.

Thank you all for your interest in the WSB.  We currently have the two positions I've alluded to open for our board and we'll begin filling those positions with the people we have heard from.  If you are interested, please contact me and I'll keep you as a potential nominee.

Those not chosen immediately will be notified.  I anticipate another position to open up at the end of the year so there will be more opportunity in the future.  It's my hope to have all these positions filled by the end of the year.  Thanks!
